backing fabric for a t-shirt quilt?

Can you guys help me brainstorm about a t-shirt quilt? I have the shirts and I'm ready to go on the quilt top, but I need some ideas for the rest.

First, I'm not going to use fusible interfacing, and I will quilt it (but not extensively, i.e. no spirals and vines and flowers and so forth). I would also prefer to wrap the backing around to the front and topstitch rather than use a binding. Here are the options I'm playing with:

A) Summer quilt, no batting. What kind of (woven, not knit) fabric would I use for a backing that would be soft yet give some structure and weight to the quilt? Denim or canvas would be too stiff and scratchy, but a bedsheet would be too flimsy. Ideas?

B) Use a light amount of batting. What kind of backing?

Thank you so much!!

If you did option A, could you use a tablecloth? that, or repurposed curtains or upholstry fabric.. those are thicker...
