host a traveling unschooling family?

hello,

i live in portland, oregon and am considering driving to st. louis with my daughter (7.5) and son (4). i know it sounds crazy and we might just fly if we feel like it will be too stressful on any of us. we are especially excited about this adventure because we would get to meet other unschooling families along the way. none of us want to just stay in roadside hotels across the country - well, maybe if there is a pool!

a bit about me and the trip.... my parents and siblings live in st. louis so that is why we are going. we (my husband and the kids) have lived here in portland for the last three years and absolutely love it. since i took the kids out of school in january and have resigned from my job (wahoo!), the kids and I have time to explore new places and meet new friends.

we will likely be traveling to st. louis in october or november. i'm thinking i'd like to avoid snowy mountains, so we'll likely go I-5 through CA then take Hwy 40 through AZ, NM, TX and OK. our ideal plan would be to have many families to meet along the way where we could stay for a night or two - and we'll bring our own blow up bed, by the way. the idea is that we would stay in st. louis for the month of december and then drive back via the same route in january.

We drove that same route from Portland. I'll always remember our time in the Redwoods and the Petrified Forest. Good luck with your trip.

If you do decide to go the other way and stay in Denver, it's a day's drive to my place about 30 min outside Kansas City. From there it's a 5 hour drive to StL. Hit me up if you have a change of route. Have a great trip!
