Good tasting (raw)Green Smoothies?

Wow its been a while since I have been on here...I am going to eat raw vegan. I need a good breakfast green smoothie. I husband is going to join me but he doesnt want to eat something that taste like grass;0) So do you ladies have some GOOD tasting green smoothies? TIA!!

I like to add spinach or parsley. My food processor doesn't do a great job with heartier greens like kale, so while I don't mind the pieces, you may. Also, you can have a good green-filled smoothie that isn't green...here, today's will have blackberries, banana, spinach, flax, and maybe almond milk.

A frozen banana does wonders, and you don't have to add ice. I thin my son's smoothies with water so he gets some additional liquid intake.

You mention you are changing your diet to raw and vegan...while this can be a very healthy, energizing diet, and good for the Earth too, it also takes a lot of knowledge and planning. I couldn't tell from your post if you're already familiar with the ins and outs of it. I've seen too many people try vegetarian/vegan/raw/etc diets and think that a diet of pasta and fake meat is healthy just because there aren't animals in it.

I make raw green smoothies all the time. My go-to combo is frozen mango, frozen pineapple, water, and either spinach, kale, collard greens, or chard.

Thanks for some ideals. To the op I was raised a vegetarian and have been vegan for 2 years I just want to switch from vegan to raw-vegan. Sorry prob should have put that in there..keep the ideals coming

this is similar to my favorite, only i also use coconut oil and banana. it tastes like a pina colada!

i also like an orange, banana, raspberries, and greens.

i don't really measure the ingredients, but here's a rough estimate of what goes into it. this makes about 32oz, so enough for two people.

1c water (add more if needed for consistency)
3T coconut oil
1 banana (the riper the better)
1 bunch kale (bottom/non-leafy stems cut off)
1c frozen pineapple
1c frozen mango

if the coconut oil is not liquid (which shouldn't be a problem now in the summer) then i'd recommend using warm water and blending it with the water first before adding the rest of the ingredients. otherwise it won't blend quite as well. hope you enjoy it!

I do alot of variations-spinach or Kale with different fruit. I always add a bannana with some other fruit depnding on what I have. Sometimes I use coconut water. I like adding flax seeds. My vitamix totally breaks them down. Adding Hemp seed ( not the powder) makes it a creamier texture which I like sometimes too. I just got a good tip from watching a David Wolfe video. He said to add a pinch of sea salt if its not sweet enough. Can't wait to try this. I've been giving my DS green smoothies for the past 2 years and he is really sick of them so I'm looking for ideas too. A raw vegan place I go to has a smoothie-think they add bannana, blueberries, coconut milk, flax and I think apple juice-its really good. I had them add greens to mine.

I fill the blender's carafe with fresh spinach and then add about 2 cups of water, frozen berries (usually some combo of strawberries/peaches/blueberries/raspberries), hemp protein, raw chia seeds, a drizzling of hemp oil, and two or three ripe bananas. Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Any way to make green smothies good without bananas? I found we are allergic and smoothies are just not that good without them. Yesterday I tries spinach, local strawberries, and a pear. I had to add a ton of maple syrup and it was still sour/strong. It needed the creaminess of the banana.

Avocado! It's creamy and will pick up the fruit's sweetness and is ohso healfy

If you don't mind oats in there, that is what we do. You can find raw whole oats. I use the regular oats. It seems to sit with my blood sugar better, too.

But, you could do some raw nuts. That would make it creamy.

soaked raw cashews make a great sub for bananas. almonds work well too.

Sounds so good. I wish avacados weren't so expensive. They are $1.59 here, and not the big ones either. Bananas are so cheap. Ripe orgnaic ones are 39 cents lb.
I hear avacados are cheap at costco...

These all sound awesome!
We like coconut oil in ours, and nut butters too. We do raw dairy here, so we often put some milk or cream or yogurt in too. We've also been adding in some Maca powder, which has a malty taste.

I'm going to try the avocado, that sounds yummy!

We use spinach, bananas (sometimes- its fine without), water strawberries and blueberries.

Our secret is that we make a ton ahead of time and freeze it in ice cube trays. For some reason, freezing it REALLY changes the taste. When we're ready for a smoothie, we throw some of the frozen smoothie cubes in with some water or fat-free milk of choice (soy, rice, etc) and blend. We've found that by freezing, the spinach taste is taken over by the sweet fruit taste, and no additional sweetener is needed.

My favorites

My favorite is collard greens, raspberries, and pineapple.

I'll add some type of oil, and sometimes protein powder if it is my entire breakfast.

I grind up oatmeal in the coffee grinder, then soak it in water overnight to make an oat milk beverage. I use that oat milk as the liquid. Tons of fiber, and it helps the smoothie last me through the morning. Otherwise, the sugar burns fast and I'm hungry about 1 1/2 later. My blender works fine to blend everything up. I'm not raw vegan, so I'm not sure if the oat milk adheres to the dietary standards.

I freeze grapes when they are getting too old to last too much longer in the fridge. Add them to smoothies that aren't quite sweet enough and they'll sweeten it up for you without having to use sugar or another sweetener.

If you're just starting, or for somebody who's not quite sure about the whole green smoothie thing, I suggest baby spinach and swiss chard at the beginning. They don't have strong flavor, and you can begin with small amounts until you see what you like. Kale, collards, and the others are not for the feint of heart.
