Aching hips

Is there anything I can do to alleviate this ache? When it gets really bad, it feels like I've spent hours riding a bike, all my crotch bones ache so much. And the front of my pelvis goes from aching to burning pain.

It's not so bad if I'm careful, but last Saturday I went to a wedding and danced a lot. The next 3 days were miserable. I couldn't lie down OR sit comfortably either.

I had this with ds2 but not until later. I'm not sure if it's my body adjusting earlier Or the fact that this little one is happily transverse and cuddled in there. I got my u/s yesterday at 26w5d and the u/s tech said the baby was a good, big size for age, about 2lbs. It makes sense that this one is bigger--I felt kicks on the outside MUCH earlier than with ds2 (about 8 weeks earlier). Could he just be really, really stretching out my hips?

Is there anything I can do to prevent/alleviate the pain that isn't hot or shows through clothing?

Thanks!

Hun... is it possible you have SPD?

It sounds like it might be (the crotch pain was my first big indicator... over time its turned to my pelvis aching like crazy)

If so... there are exercises, precautions and support belts that can help relieve the pain... as can a trip to the chiro!

The support belt neither causes me to sweat an incredible amount nor really shows horribly through my clothing (though it does make me look MUCH more pregnant than I do without) its 98 out with a heat index of 109 today... and really the support belt does not make me any more miserable than I would be without it.

It is possible. I'm normally more flexible than the norm, so the extra relaxin probably isn't helping things.

What support belt do you use? Are there any sites out there that are good for this? I did get a support type belt last time, but it was a huge foam wrap thing that made me miserably hot. But the hugging of the hips felt sooo good!

Does the chiro really help this? I feel really 'odd' down there, like my entire pelvis is a jigsaw puzzle that decided to loosen up a bit and things aren't lining up right anymore. Like, things keep sliding against each other without 'clicking' into place. Is that SPD?

Definitely try a chiropractor. If it's SPD, I don't think it will help 100% (it didn't with me), but it'll give a decent amount of relief.

lol thats exactly SPD and yes, they help. They push it back into place when it gets WAY out of place... its not a one-time deal though, you have to go back every time it starts to hurt bad again because it WILL get out of alignment again. But it does help! (as was said its not a 100% relief but when going through this any relief is worth it!)

And the belt I got is this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

After looking at all sorts of reviews its the one I chose to go with and I do not regret it at all! My BIGGEST problem with it is that I hate taking it off because then I hurt worse again! But you cant exactly bathe/swim/sleep in it!

Theres no foam to it and even the back brace part seems to breathe pretty well while still being firm as is necessary.

The reviews on it I read mostly sound like they did not read the instructions on how to put it on correctly. I have NEVER needed assistance putting it on, the only times I do not feel enough support is if I do not make sure to do the last part of the instructions (lay down on the bed and tighten it in that position) and while it does move around a bit, its fairly easy to move back into place.

Also... floating! OH MY GOODNESS! I was in a hot tub after our wedding (set low of course) and floating there I felt the best I have felt the entire pregnancy!

I went to a physio class on this, and they mentioned a few things that helped me.

- for the back of the hips, heat packs help, but for the front ice works better
- "switch on" your pelvic floor muscles and butt muscles by tensing them before standing up, this supposedly makes them hold your pelvis together better
- not sure if you are working, but I switched my chair for a swiss ball, and that has been the BEST help

I go to the chiro regularly and always have her check/adjust my pelvis. I really think it is making a difference this time.

I am also doing a Pilates machine class once a week, and think it is helping a lot. I missed a week of it, and started having pelvic pain despite the chiro visits. I think physio or a good Pilates/alignment class can help a lot.

Some things I've been remembering from last time: (1) whenever possible, move your legs in unison - when getting out of the bed or car, keep your knees and ankles aligned with each other. this keeps one side of the pelvis from shifting out of place. (2) don't cross your legs at the knees or put one ankle on the other knee. This shifts things out of place. (3) Be careful when doing an off-set twisting motion, like when sweeping or mopping. This is always when I get a stabbing pain

I hope you find some relief.
