JR-I'm going to be seeing this doctor. I don't know how much you've read about T-cells and all the immune stuff on Hashis I don't think you ever read Dr. Kharrazian book but this doctor treats things similar to him. They focus on treating the immune system instead of the thyroid. Here's a little report below If you want to check it out. When I get a flare the only thing I notice is my thyroid pulsating. What are you feeling like? I hope you get some relief soon.

honestly? just started reading about it today.
i'm kind of wondering if this might be classed more as fibro or something? it starts with a sore throat, then becomes a sore neck (glands), then my neck muscles are effected (like I slept wrong)- all of this along with a possibly hoarse voice (though not terribly bad, noticeable to me). It proceeds from there until my entire head, neck, shoulders and back are aching and I can barely move and lasts a few days to a few weeks. The last time it happened, it lasted 2 or 3 weeks, I think, with a good day here and there and was followed by a sudden increase in hypothyroid symptoms. I attributed it, at the time, to adding iodine to my list of supps but there is no such catalyst this time, except maybe a thyroid med increase 2 or so weeks ago. This time, so far, it's been about 4 days and today started out terrible but seems to be ending okay (*knocking on wood*). |

It does sound like fibro but then I'm not sure what how to really know because Hashis seems so different for so many people at least that's how I see it. I wish I could me more help to you. I will definitely let you know how it goes with the doctor I'm seeing If you are interested in how it goes. I feel decent but not great. I've seen 3 NDs in the past year who are somewhat helpful but I feel they just keep trying to treat my thyroid and a lot of what I'm reading is saying with Hashis you NEED to treat the immune system treating the thyroid isn't going to get us anywhere ifykwim?

I know *exactly* what you mean!! I don't know how many doctors I've said "Ok, so how do we treat the underlying condition?" to and gotten either blank stares or the look on their face was like I'd just grown horns and had my head spin around three times.
![]() I would *love* to hear about your experiences with the doctor! |

Can you give me a better definition than this?
![]() At present my mag to calcium ratio is at LEAST 2:1- I'm not certain of exacts atm but... |
|
I really don't know but this is how I have been thinking in my mag. loading journey:
The body is supposed to store something like 25-50 grams, forget exact amount but around that high of an amount. And then there is the amount that you use up in a day... More if stressed. More if deficient. What if you are deficient, how much do you need to take to restock stores and get enzymes working? What if you have been habitually consuming tons of calcium like most Western diets which is like an antagonist to mag? And I also came across the idea recently that high carb diets (high insulin) causes you to lose more mag. My approach was to use topical mag. b/c it was obvious to me that anything orally over 100 mg effected my stools (which meant I wasn't absorbing it). I was able to get my RBC - red blood cell - levels up (a truer test of minerals than standard blood testing) with the topical being about 95% of what I did. A few things I found recently that I can tolerate over 100 mg orally: mag chloride liquid and 200 mg. mag glycinate. |

Dr. Tom Cowen wrote a great article on LDN therapy and the immune system:

JR- Have you considered EBV being an issue for you?

Considered it, yes. Done anything about it? No.
No idea where to start... There are just so many contributing factors. Maybe this is one I actually could do something about while still bfing though... Although, from the list that I see, about the only thing left to do is go gluten free and teach myself more/better stress management. |

generic thyroid is natural (aka armour/westhroid/erfa/etc). It's made from pig for the most part. It's healthier than synthetic. If you have hashi's there's no cure (despite what oprah says). Eventually your body will attack it until it dies. Just take your pill everyday. It's not a big deal.

) is for Hashis. Yes there's no cure but It can become dormant. I jsut got blood work done and I currently have negative antibodies. Although thyroid hormone replacement can help you feel better the best way to treat Hashis is to focus on the immune system NOT the thyroid.|
Not to be snarky but- did you have something meaningful to add to the discussion or did you just pop in to tell me to suck it up?
Thanks for the update, mom61508. Glycine is an amino acid. I believe it's the primary AA used in one of the 7 detox pathways (appropriately called amino acid conjugation). Iirc, it's also used for some metabolic processes involving AMP- which is basically the energy our cells run on. HTH. It sounds like an incredibly interesting experience and like I might actually be able to have a discussion with that doctor without him looking at me like I've grown 5 heads for bringing up metabolism, immune processes, etc. I hope he helps you! eta: If you want to know more about glycine, the ladies in chat may be able to help you more. Shannon and Tanya are seriously wizards with this stuff. |
. I hope you can find something that works for you. BTW Are you feeling better?
