Don't think I will get my homebirth :( UPDATE!!! :)

So I found out on Monday that my baby is footling breech at 37.5 weeks. My MW couldn't tell for sure but US confirmed it. The mw will not do a footling breech birth and the OB said that they won't do it either. (although he is one of the few OBs in the area who do do breech births.) I feel so down about it all. I have gone for moxibustion, went to the chiro for the first time today (and plan to keep up both) and have done handstands, tilts and lots of music, heat and cold packs on my belly. Just tell me I will be ok either way this turns out. I really need to come to terms with this so at least I can relax. Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry. I really hope your baby turns.

I think what I would try to focus on is the best preparation you can for a c-section. Write a c-section birth plan, consider and express your preferences, ask questions, etc. I think that could make a really big difference in how the experience is for you.

No matter what, it will be the birth you and your baby need, and it is a joyful thing.

It still isn't too late for him to turn, especially if this isn't your first baby. I hope they will wait to let you go into spontaneous labor, that way, it will be easier for him to breathe, no matter which way he gets out...Best of luck to you...let us know how it goes...

Cathi, this is actually my third and it only flipped last friday night. thats what is giving me hope but alot of people say with footling they wind up getting their feet stuck down there and can't get them out. S/he is quite active so I hope that means it is trying to get out of position and flip.

Romana- Thanks for the great ideas. I am really not sure what I am even able to do after c-section. I wish that I could have skin-skin contact and things like that. Things that I would be able to do if I had my natural birth.

Hi- I am writing this in case it might help you. My baby turned from transverse a bit earlier (36 weeks). The night she turned, I woke up in the middle of the night and knew the baby was very awake. She was kicking like crazy. I went downstairs for a snack and had the idea of the flashlight. I had been in a dark room sleeping for hours. I got a tiny flashlight. like a mini-mag light, and put it by my pelvis and she dove right for it. Anyway, I know the circumstances are always different, but I was imagining from the babies perspective, that she had been swimming in the dark for hours and suddenly there was a light that she had to check it out.
I wish you luck, remember it's never too late! Hope you get your home birth.

My 3rd child flipped from kneeling breech to head down at 36 weeks, he was 8 lbs 10 oz when he was born at term, chiropractic did the trick for me. I do know how you feel on the loss of homebirth, I had a hb with my 2nd after a horrible hospital birth experience with my first. My homebirth ended up being a transfer before labor even started due to high blood pressure which the OB on the floor at the hospital (went in for a NST) insisted was pre eclampsia, though tests did not show it. He threw my hb out the window.

Depending on the hospital you can do a lot of things after a c/s! I have had 2, and after both I nursed right away, baby never left me, they lowered the sheet so I could see them being born, etc. I hope your baby flips so you can have your hb

So I was sure that baby flipped this morning so I made a m/w appt. They now think it is frank instead of footling!!!!! I hope they are right about that because I have a much better chance of a vaginal birth then. And if the baby could get out of footling position hopefully it can flip on its own or be turned with an ECV!!

YAY! Go baby!

Chiro!

Definitely keep up the chiropractic visits (with a knowledgeable chiropractor who has had experience turning babies)! They can work wonders, and especially more comfortably than ECV.

SO BABY FLIPPED ALL ON HER OWN!!! NO ECV WAS NEEDED!!! I went to the chiro monday and did the moxi. I also took pulsatilla thatt day. That night we hit the pool with the kids and I did headstands and somersaults like no other. Anyway I think thats when baby flipped!!! I never even felt it move back so I was shocked when I went for my appt Wednesday and s/he was head down. So we are back on track for my homebirth/ waterbirth. I have never been so happy in my life. Baby can come anytime now
