Is this bacterial vaginosis?

TMI..

I'm just over 3 weeks postpartum. I had a c-section and was given antibiotics as I was GBS +. I had postpartum bleeding that ended a few days ago (typical for me). But ever since I've had yellow discharge and a foul odor. It's enough discharge that I need a pad and not just a liner. I don't hurt, itch, etc. DH and I have had sex one time. But I noticed hints of the nasty odor before him and I had intercourse.

Does this sound like BV? I was reading other threads about treatment for it, but it seems many mention an itching or burning and I have neither. But the odor is terrible. I don't want to try treatments for BV until I am pretty sure that's what it is. I'd like to clear this up well before my 6 week checkup though. (I know doctors have seen and probably smelled it all but this is incredibly disgusting and I am so embarrassed )

Yes.

Have you tried probiotics? There are a couple which are very effective for the vaginal area: Femdophilus and Mindlinx, they have the L. crispatus strain.

Antibiotics are the devil!! I seriously cannot understand why the normal human gut flora response to antibiotics isn't considered by the medical establishment.

After the numerous issues I've had with abx, I almost told them no (I was having a c/s anyway!). But I gave in. Now I'm mad at myself for doing that, lol.

Thank you! And thanks for the recs on probiotics. I have some, but I know it's neither of those kinds. I'll hit Whole Foods tomorrow. I think I'm also going to try the hydrogren peroxide/water wash (just in a peri bottle, not a douche).

I would like to throw it in there that it could be an infection, which you would want to get looked at by a professional. I had an infection in my uterus after a miscarriage, and it was a yellow discharge with a horrid smell.

I've had BV several times before and don't ever recall a yellow discharge.

I would second a Dr /mw visit if you're pp and having funky, smelly discharge.

If it IS bv, I've had good success with treating mine with Astroglide, the pH of 4 helps correct acidity levels, without napalming all the good bac, too, like peroxide would. HTH!

I've had good luck treating BV with garlic suppositories, but 3 weeks pp, I would question an infection as one of the pp suggests. Perhaps a visit to your provider is in order.

I had a complete lab done on my blood a week ago (which the smell was here and there at that time as well) and all was well. They did a urinalysis on me and it was fine (clean) as well.

Would bloodwork show it?
Wouldn't they culture the discharge?
Clean catch urine testing wouldn't show a bv infection would it?

Aren't probiotics usually recommended for GBS+ mama's? They certainly should be. I really wish this would be studied better and get more dr's onboard.

I am a new mom and just signed up on here. Hello!

I would definitely recommend seeing a professional very soon. You cannot be embarrassed about it.

For me they usually do a vaginal swab and check it under the microscope to check for BV. Also, sitting around the pool with a damp bathing suit is a big NO NO for me. I hope you get it cleared up soon.
