Side Car

Anyone just pull off the drop side on their crib and use that as a side car. Or is that a side car.

Sorry my question mark seems to have disappeared...

I think that's what most people do. That's what I plan on doing, as I expect I will be using a hand-me-down crib which will most likely be a drop-side.

Here's an example of how one family did it:

And here's another example, with a video:

We've done it as well. It' been that way for nearly 3.5 years and has been the greatest thing!

That is what we were going to do with the hand-me-down drop side crib we got but instead we went with an Ikea crib. (I didn't like the style of the hand-me-down)

The Ikea crib doesn't have drop sides and is made to take one side off and use as a toddler bed so it worked perfectly. (My DH made the side we took off into a baby gate)

We are side car'd! I love it! DS2 slept beautifully last night, only two wake ups in close to 13 hrs of sleep. Just need to figure out how to keep the crib mattress and our mattress from slipping apart. I am thinking bungee cords...

did you get the Ikea gulliver crib by any chance? I am looking into that. We just got a graco crib which we sidecarred- just a couple days ago. But it is so synthetic feeling- the particle board, but solid wood cribs are around 700$ and +! So I saw this at Ikea which I think is solid wood.http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40118818

I found an awesome Delta Venetian crib in good used condition AND a decent, clean mattress on Craigslist for $100. Even though the mattress is not organic, it's still a few years old and has had plenty of time to off-gas.

We took off the front side and side-carred it to our bed with bungees.
