HELP! My dolls head is all floppy.

I have been working SO hard on my duaghter's 14inch waldorf-style doll for her first birthday next week. I just finished crocheting in the LONG, thick hair and I love the way it looks. But it's so heavy that now her head flops to the side. Is there anything I can do? Do I just have to make the hair shorter? Thanks-
Courtney

I'm not sure what pattern you are using but when I make a Waldorf doll, I roll the head ball then wrap it in a thick piece of batting large enough to encase the head ball and for the neck and shoulder plate or "muff". If this piece of batting is too thin or small, then the neck will be too thin as well, and weak. By any chance do you think this is the issue? If so, no amount of shortening the hair will help. If this is in fact the problem, can you go back and add to this batting or have you already embroidered the face?

Oh, yeah. I've already embrodered her. She's finished but for a weak neck. Do you think I can just add some more stuffing? Or would she then be all lumpy?

Yes you could try adding some stuffing, but it will be lumpy without the batting pulled over it. Can you add a strip of the knit fabric around the neck for support? Otherwise, I would save the wig and use it on your next doll.
