Quick! I need a plan for today!

In laws are coming for dinner tonight. Usually not a big deal, but tonight they're bringing the grandma. I really need to pull this house together today. There is some to do in each room. It feels overwhelming on a Friday, but I know I can do it.

I need a plan! I don't want to spend the whole day cleaning. Any advice or inspiration on how to get motivated and done quickly?

Thanks Mamas!

Set a timer for 15 minutes and work as fast as you can in one room. Then take a 10 minute break. Repeat this process in another room. When you've done all the rooms, you can start again in the first room if you really need to.

Good luck!

That's a good plan. Also, is there a room that can be closed for the evening? Not a wonderful long term plan, but in cases like this, I have moved baskets of laundry/library books/etc to a kids room for the evening in the interest of having more time for the main areas.I know for me I focus in this order
kitchen cleaned, scrubbed
tables and floors in main areas, decluttered, swept, wiped, etc
bathroom scoured- at least cursory wipe, swipe, flush, etc
my bedroom tidy, bed made, etc. I like to leave that door open, and the kids room closed!
If I have more time, I will really go to town with making sure every inch of the kitchen, living, and main bathroom are tidy and shining

Wow, that was fast! Thanks for the quick replies, Mamas! After reading your responses I'm feeling more centered. I can do this. I'm going to merge both ideas...timer combined with closing off a few areas. If I still have energy after doing the main areas I'll work on those. Here I go!
