Avoiding plastic in food storage

If you are avoiding plastic for food storage, what is your preferred choice of storage containers? I've used canning jars for years but they are not opaque and some stuff needs to be stored in dark containers. I do not have nearly the amount of cabinet space I need so I store a lot on open shelves so dark cabinet isn't an option.

You can find cheap stainless steel canisters. I know Ikea has cute ones. Other than that, ceramic, vintage-style, is always awesome =)

ceramic is really nice, I have been coveting the Le Creuset ceramic canisters but I don't have the counter space in the kitchen so I'd have to lug them from the pantry for use. Full of flour or sugar I can see them being pretty heavy.

Crate and Barrel has some porcelain cannisters http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=850&f=32933

The problem with the Le Creuset cannisters IMO is they don't have lids that seal, they are made to sit on the counter. I would be worried about the lids slipping off.

I got pantry moths once so I get really freakish about my storage

Don't they have those silicone edges inside? I have the spice jar and it has that, so it seals well enough for me.

Ok I couldn't stand it, Amazon warehouse deals had the large ones for 35 dollars each so I bought a red, a white and a blue one.

I just use mason jars for dry goods/canned goods and pyrex for leftovers. What do you have that "needs" an opaque container??
