Heavy Wetter Overnights

I have scoured the boards for a quick overnight solution for my heavy wetter, but I am coming up dry (har har har).

Every single night this week, we have had a major leak. Not a little bit: a LOT of pee. I have tried everything I've got: doubled up prefolds, hemp, loopy-do and microfiber in a pocket, a disposable and a loopy-doo inside a pocket, etc, etc. I gave up last night and just put a disposable on him... and I woke up at 2:30 in a puddle.

I am getting desperate to not get peed on in the night. Midnight diaper changes are not an option unless I want to get up for an hour or two at 2:30 (not really). We mostly use prefolds with covers during the day, with the occasional pocket for those "lazy" moments. I originally bought the pockets for overnight use, but I can't stuff them full enough - when they have enough absorbency, they gap at the leg and leak. I have the same problem with making the prefolds too bulky - the cover gaps (even when I size up on the cover) and they leak even before the prefold gets fully wet. It is a pee-filled Catch 22.

I just ordered two new covers this morning: a Stacinator So Simple and a Dancing Bears Overnight, and now I have two questions: What the heck do I do until they get here? and... When they are here, What do I put on inside?

I have a variety of options: Three sizes of prefolds (preemie up to whatever the 15-30lb ones are called), a ton of microfiber, hemp doublers, loopy-dos, pockets. Clearly the disposables I am using aren't absorbent enough, so I guess I could just go get a bigger size or an overnight style (ugh)?

Please guide me!

Sorry for the tome. Sorry for the repeat of I am sure, 100 previous similar questions.

Hmmm. . . Dancing bears overnight covers and stacinator (fleece overnight) covers worked pretty well for us for nighttime with a thick prefold, so good things to try out.

Depending on whether those covers help, I also LOVE polar babies happy pants covers for nighttime (they seem to not bulge at the legs the most, where you tend to get leaks.), so you could look at those too.

I find, if you need something additional to a prefold, a hemp fleece doubler, with microfiber underneath or inside (I'm thinking about the hemp babies smaller weeds - we'd fold them around a microfleece insert sometimes for nighttime) would be an effective not enormously bulky solution with your thickest prefolds. I rarely used pockets at nighttime, so no real ideas there other than it sometimes helped having something on top of the diaper instead of stuffing everything inside, the few times we used them at night with my dd1.

Could matter what age it is you're trying to diaper too. . . hope you find something that'll work.

This is what we have to use to get through the night:

i'd recommend a OS cover like mommy's touch, since you can get it snug but have the extra rise to cover the bulk.

WOOL.

Even though it is summer. A wool soaker cover is a MUST. I love the Aristocrat Wool Soaker. I also had great success with recyled wool wraps (my fave have snaps, but I also have velcro) but that seller is gone.
I found some here and Etsy has a ton of recyled shorties. I suspect that shorties/longies are more common that wraps because they prevent leg-leaking. I liked my wraps with my fitted dipes.

Fleece NEVER worked well for my boy as an overnight, but once we used wool all was well. He'd be wet in the morning, but not puddled.

As a last resort, Huggies makes an overnight brand that really does work.

ETA: the diapers we used exculsively for night were Crickett's fitted. I found the hemp to be superior to the cotton. I've also been known to put a wool cover over some cheap pockets we have.

Can you tell I adore wool? And I live in Arizona and can say that it is not too hot for a LO to sleep in.

Have you prepped the hemp really well by washing it about a million times, LOL? I love the Happy Heiny's hemp fitted with a hemp insert, though it stinks in the morning! You could also always try a disposable with a hemp liner and a cover.

Thank you ladies! I got a different disposable for tonight- hopefully it works!

I think I will order a wool cover- I was overwhelmed by the price, but I didn't even think of etsy, and wallypop is reasonable too!

Thanks again!

I actually just got a custom cover off HC from a mom I had bought from before - I needed a higher rise than the ones I have. I only paid $12 for it. Not sure it would be suitable for night-time use, but definitely look around. There's lots out there.

If you want night-time weight WAHM wool, I have some TC longies that are bullet-proof. TC is far thicker than knit. I can get you that mom's info. I know she does customs, too.
