Carb watching - anyone doing it? - Page 2

Sooo, I've been using almond flour to make pancakes, the muffin recipe posts (thanks!), as well as some pumpkin muffins last night, and I made crackers, too. I def need a cheaper source - we paid $16 for 16 ounces. I've been meaning to grind almonds myself, but they aren't exactly cheap, either.

I've done pretty well limiting carbs. No potatoes, carrots, rice, etc. Except yesterday I had two sushi rolls b/c I couldn't resist and had some tortilla chips with dip on the 4th. Other than that, I've done well with no sugar and minimal carbs. I think being able to bake things with almond flour is helping and I don't crave unhealthy stuff much anymore.

You ladies might want to check out the primal/paleo/grainfree threads we have in nutrition. We eat low carb for the most part. Might be of some help

I have cut back on carbs because my lower tummy hurts when I eat too many. I have tried soaking my flours overnight before baking with them and that has helped huge. With the heat though I haven't baked lately and have eaten store bought breads and my tummy is so sore.

I would like to cut out breads totally. I love fruit and vegetables so I wouldn't ever cut those out but I think I could cut out breads. I know breads are keeping me from seeing the results of all my working out. I have tons of muscle but it is covered with a layer of fat that is pissing me off.

DS's birthday is this week. sigh. Not a great week to start cutting breads out. But a great week to test my will power I guess.

Google Honeyville. They sell 5lb bags of almond flour for around $30. I keep it in the fridge it lasts about 5-8 weeks with my baking schedule.

Thanks, Violet - I did see a couple coupons for honeyville online, just wasn't sure how well it worked for baking. Good to know you use it. I'll have to order a bag.

Do you have a Trader Joe's near by? They used to sell almond flour there (maybe $4 or $5 for 16oz), though the last time I bought it was many months ago.
