2 weeks ago I had to have surgery to drain an abscess in my breast after mastitis. I've been unable to breastfeed from that side, because the tissue surrounding the abscess (and around my nipple) became very hard, the nipple didn't really invert, but became quite flattened, and my son wasn't able to latch on at all. I also wasn't able pump. My milk has mostly if not completely dried up on that side. Now the tissue is almost back to normal, and earlier he was able to latch on, although the latch wasn't great. I figure in a few more days it will improve, as there is still some slightly hard tissue under one side of the areola, causing the poor latch.

So, all that being said...what is the best way to go about building my supply back up on that side? I also have a rented Symphony pump, but so far when I try to use it, my nipple and part of the areola start turning purple...even though it's not causing any discomfort. I'm hoping this corrects itself once all the hard tissue is completely gone, as I didn't have issued pumping from it before.

What I've done so far is have him latch on and suck from the bad side at a feeding, then when he starts to get to get fussy, I put him on the good breast and let him eat until he's satisfied.

I'm just amazed with my good breast, which has been working overtime feeding him entirely for the last two weeks.
