This morning I went to let my birds out into their yard and one of my turkeys stayed huddled in the corner- big red flag as they usually are all waiting at the door for me. I was able to shoo him into the yard and I watched him, he lay right down on the ground and didn`t attempt to move when a rooster tried to attack him, so I picked him up with absolutely no resistance from him and put him in a separate pen with fresh food and water. His head and neck seem skinny, like he`s dehydrated maybe... A little background- we have 20 chickens (some roosters mixed in there), 3 turkeys and a duck (had 2 but 1 was killed a few weeks ago). They are all 3 months old or so, we got them as day olds and have never had an illness problem. They are housed in an old hen house that hasn`t been used in years (at least 5+), we cleaned it out and put out fresh bedding (soft wood shavings) which I have been replacing regularly. They get fresh food and water daily, the turkeys are on a grower high protien feed for turkeys by Purina. At night the turkeys are in their own pen and the chickens in theirs. The duck has been housed with the turkeys since his friend was killed a few weeks ago because he was so distressed to be alone. I have no problems with fighting or head pecking so far. In the day they all go out into the common yard, which is a fenced area about 24 ft x 20 ft, it used to be all weeds (stinging nettle) but has been reduced to just dirt now, they are quite happy out there and we give them appropriate scraps each day or 2 along with a balanced feed diet. We`ve also been giving them weeds from the yard (I checked online to make sure none were toxic), mostly dandelion, which they go nuts for. Anyhow, none of the other birds show any signs of illness, so far. One other thing, the sick turkey has always been the runt of the 3 of them, he was able to walk, so he`s not lame and there are no obvious injuries on him. I have no idea what to do and have no $, so anything costly is out of the question. Any ideas! Please help, thanks so much, even if you can point me in the direction of a site that I can get more help from. Thanks...
