Does more food = bigger reaction

If someone is sensitive to, say, traces of wheat, would they have a bigger reaction if they ate a whole piece of bread? Or is it not that easy?

Ds can eat a fair amount of corn with no difference in reactions (mild reactions in both cases) compared to when he may or may not have had trace amounts. Is it relatively safe to assume he's not sensitive to corn?

It certainly depends. A celiac reacts violently to trace amounts. My RD is gluten intolerant and got arthritis symptoms from trace amounts in spices.

A food chemical intolerant person might be fine with a couple bites of tomato sauce but really react to a whole serving.

You mean he reacts the same to large and trace amounts of corn?

I've also heard it said that one can react more strongly to a food if it's been eliminated for a time and then reintroduced, as opposed to eating it regularly everyday causing a low level symptom.

I'm not sure what he's reacting to
I just know that his reaction is NOT any worse when he/I eats large amounts of corn compared to when he/I eats trace amounts of it. I'm wondering if that means that he's likely not intolerant to corn, kwim?

Corn is a really tricky one. My DS reacted when he ate popcorn, but not straight corn. Reacts to corn syrup, but not corn starch. Reacts to too many corn chips, but not a few. Reacted to sorbitol (corn derived) but not mannitol and the other corn derived sugar I can't remember at the moment.

Corn has been tricky for us too. DS seems to be able to tolerate small amounts of xanthan gum, but not corn startch or maltodextrin. Our newest corn reaction I think was grain alcohol, or his bucket was too full of xanthan gum. I on the other hand, can't handle corn meal, starch, popcorn, but am OK on trace corn (xanthan, maltodextrin, etc) and have a threshold for corn syrup.

What is intersting for DS is that we had to completely take out corn to see results and then figure out what he can tolerate--otherwise he was in a continual state of reacting...and like you said, not really better or worse, just always reacting. I think more food *can* equal a bigger reaction, or trigger a full bucket/response, but I in my observation once we hit the upper limit symptom wise for reactions, we can surpass that with more allergens/volume and things won't get worse.
