Baby clothes quilt

I am curious who has made one and if you'd be willing to show me pictures of it.

I know how to make it. I've been going to quilting classes for seven years now in order to learn to quilt specifically to make a quilt from my DD's baby clothes. I've made dozens of other quilts along the way...

What I am lacking is a quilt pattern I like for this particular project.

I am also curious how you use a baby clothes quilt. Do you use it as a quilt on a bed or a lap quilt? Or is it a display quilt on the wall or a rack? Or something else???

Once I figure out the main quilt, I know exactly what I want to do with the leftover pieces. I will make a small wallhanging quilt in a simple design and then hand-stitch my favorite baby dress onto it (leaving the dress fully intact). The dress colors go really well with our bedroom, so I plan to hang this in our master bedroom as a piece of art.

Before I do that, though, I need to figure out a design and purpose for the main quilt.... Got any ideas???

How many scraps do you have? If i had time, skills, and enough baby clothes, I'd be tempted to do something like:
grandmother's flower garden
dresden plate
grandmother's fan
I could envision those blocks around a white space with the dress like you're talking about, especially the grandmother's fan.. You could do an outer frame with those then applique the dress in the middle.

You sound far more knowledgeable about sewing than I am, so I don't have any advice for your main question, but I just had to comment that this sounds beautiful! I know it's probably a ways off, but if you think of it will you post a picture of the finished product when you're through? I'd love to see!

You just reminded me about a project I've been wanting to do!

I want to create a quilt journal. I have given most of my quilts away as gifts, but I took pictures of all of them first (at least I think I did). Someone gave me a bound book titled "Quilt Journal" and I haven't used it, yet. It is not quite right for what I have in mind, but it is my "inspiration piece". I may disassemble that book and use the pages in a book of my own creation or I may use it as a guide for my own project and then pass it along (intact) to another quilter. Either way, I am going on a scrapbooking retreat 7/9-7/11 and this might be a fun project to bring along. I wonder if I can get the pictures together and printed on time....

Thanks!
