Please, wise women, tell me what is causing this?

I noticed yesterday afternoon that my daughter has some bruising and swelling under her left eye, and as the day went on it seems like her the underside of her right eye is also swelling and appears to be starting to bruise. She doesn't remember getting hit in the eye nor does her dad (who she was with when the bruise appeared.) My other girls don't recall her hurting herself either.

I guess it's concerning me because it started under one eye first then the other.

First of all, she's absolutely lovely!

Did she get sunscreen in her eye? I've been seeing some serious irritations and allergic reactions lately.

Pink eye a possibility? Are the eyeball veins red? Similisan's homeopathic pink eye relief wouldn't do anything if it's not pe... I've seen it lately at conventional drugstores.

Did she eat anything new?

Exposed to gardening pesticides or cleaning products?

First, thank you, I think she is too

We did use sunscreen all day yesterday as we were outside and she burns easily.

No pink eye, no new food, and no to the pesticides or cleaning products, as far as I know.

Besides her eyes being swollen and red/bruised her actual eyeballs are clear.

sunscreen rubbed into eyes would be my working theory then.

Since it is both eyes, I'd suspect sunscreen or some other chemical allergy too. Which sunscreen was it? The Environmental Working Group recently came out with a 2010 guide to safe sunscreens. This site lets you put in your sunscreen and get information about it. It also lists the best ones. http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/

Also to cut back on sunscreen you can try shade sources (if possible), covering up with UV clothing (not ones with chemicals but ones that are woven tightly). We got a big hat with a brim like that for DS.

Also children should wear good sunglasses when outside. It's especially important for blue-eyed people as having your eyes exposed to the sun can leave you open to macular degeneration in your later years. If she wears the glasses, you would'nt have to put the sunscreen so close to her eyes.

I'd get that checked out. Could be periorbital cellulitis.
