Where Do You Store Your Luggage?

That's pretty much my question!

It's so bulky, occupies beaucoup space, and only comes out once a year. Any ideas?

We store ours in the garage... we have 2 large suitcases (like, I could fit inside them in the fetal position kind of large) and we put all the other luggage bits inside them.

First, nest as many pieces as you can - one inside of another.

I was storing mine in the basement but it was getting a little damp. I ended up moving it to the guest room closet.

Can it fit under a bed? I find that ideal because it is totally out of the way then.

Ours is in the playroom closet, along with the camping gear and the tubs of outgrown baby clothes and toys.

We have a few nested inside each other kept on the very very top shelf in our garage. I'm not quite sure why we even keep them though, now that you've made me think about them... lol. They were given to us as a pre-wedding gift & have only been used once- for our honeymoon! It'd be easier for me to just rehome them & borrow luggage if we ever go anywhere. And that's a big "if". haha

Ours were in the garage until our most recent trip. Now they are the huge closet under the stairs (and not completely unpacked ). Actually, one is in our family closet right now - I am cleaning that room out today, though, so it will go in the other closet until we need them next month.

I nest as many pieces as possible and then store them on the top shelve in our closet. I can't reach the shelf without a step stool, so it isn't practical to store things i need frequently up there.

We also nest ours. The pieces we use 3-4x a year are under our bed, nested. The pieces we do not use (but need to keep for frequent moves, etc.) are nested in the storage room in the basement.

We have a small apartment so it is in our bedroom closet. My mom fortunately got us a nice nesting set so it takes up less space than it would otherwise.

DH puts them in the basement, but I think it's crazy to drag luggage up 2 flights of stairs to pack it, so I put them in a guest room closet.

The ones that are still packed from our trip last month...in my closet.

DH and I just have one piece of luggage each, and neither piece is huge. DH shoves his on the shelf over his clothes rack in the closet (precariously balanced, but whatever). I shove mine under the bed. It kind of bends the stiff part a bit but I don't care that much. It's held up after 5 years under that bed (and 10 more years being shoved in various closet corners).

Depending on your travel needs, have you considered duffel bags? They hold a lot but store in small spaces. You can get wheeled types too, I believe. I can see how duffels wouldn't work for everyone but I personally don't pack much and end up carrying my wheeled luggage through most of the airport anyway so it would work ok for me.

We weeded out luggage and only kept the pieces we really liked and use most often.

I nest the airplane travel luggage in the largest suitcase (hard-sided with excellent wheels), which includes backpacks and a rolling carry-on and the medium size version of the large suitcase. We typically travel with one checked suitcase (total, not each) and a backpack each on the plane. Our last vacation was ten days in Hawaii and we brought three backpacks, one booster seat, and one rolling carry-on bag -- no checked bags at all. Made me feel a lot better about ditching most of our luggage. DH travels for business a few times a year and uses the suitcases.

I nest the car travel luggage in the largest rolling duffle bag (lots of pockets, sturdy wheels and handles, squishable for cramming into vehicles). This set includes gym bags and soft-sided briefcases and a smaller rolling duffle bag and smaller luggage-style tote bags. Although, I haven't dug around in here for awhile and wonder if I donated most of this...

I have a large zip-top fabric bag where I put all the other zippered bags (all sizes). This includes toiletry bags, cosmetic bags (small), garment bags (simple ones), shoe pouches (open-end jersey knit pocket for stowing shoes with clothing without leaving marks), beach bags (during our off-season), etc. We get into this bag throughout the year and swap stuff all the time.

All three main pieces fit neatly in a square space in our master closet under DH's hanging clothes between the three-bin laundry sorter and DH's shoe basket. The airplane suitcase slides in sideways and rolls out of the way in order to access the other pieces from one side. Or, the laundry sorter can be rolled out of the closet for easy-access to the other pieces from that side. It is an awkward spot to store anything and this is the best use, yet, and has been like this for about two years now. The fabric bag can be accessed easily from either side if you just want to reach in and grab something or put something away quickly, which is great. If you need to literally lift it up and empty it out, then it requires moving something out of the way first.

When I had a garage (AZ so nice and dry) that is where it all went. Now its all nested into each other and stored under my bed. IMO most people have way too much luggage LOL

Our closet. Not ideal, but it works

We only have small closets so I store mine in my parents' basement.

Mine are nested together in a closet as well. I'd prefer to have them out of the living space - maybe the garage would be better...

Nested in one of the guest room closets. We tried putting them in one of the attics but we travel so much it was just a hassle having to get them down.

For regular vactions/air travel we have a nice nesting set that we keep on a shelf in the garage. For camping/quick overnight trips we have a couple of duffel bags that are in a storage bin on the shelf of my closet.

We used to have a couple mismatched suitcases that didn't nest together, so they had to be stored separately, and that took up so much room. We gave those away and replaced them with the set.
