My best friend is now an intactivist...

At the ripe old age of 20, pre-kids

She's been on the homebirth train for about a year now, she's a gluten free vegetarian, she's anti-vax, pro-breastfeeding, against modern medicine when not absolutely necessary, etc. Since a short conversation, she's been of the thought "it's not my passion but I am pretty sure I wouldn't circumcise a son." Well, she studied abroad this past semester and dated a Spanish man. Needless to say, she's become more interested in the subject after that

Tonight, we watched a video together and she couldn't even finish it. She was absolutely horrified and posted her first anti-circ Facebook status. It just makes me so happy that someone so close to me feels so similarly to me, and that we can talk frankly about it. Our other best friend isn't passionate about it, but is committed to not circ'ing her son. I'm just so happy...it's amazing how some people can just see through the bull so fast and just get it!

Young people who don't have children yet really get the issue in my experience of interfacing with the public on this topic. They are the most receptive of the truth of circ - whether they be male or female - in my experience.

Well, I'm hoping we'll all see the end of circumcision soon, but it's great to know that there are such knowledgeable, dedicated, and passionate young people to carry the message forward. It must be a great feeling to have such a good friend with whom you can learn and share and take action around genital integrity issues.
