Help! Swollen Ear!

DS1 is 3 & they came home from the pool yesterday his ear was very red, like sunburn. This morning it is very swollen and red, but not bumpy. It feels hot to the touch, but he says it doesn't hurt. No fever. He did fall off the couch yesterday, but I'm pretty sure it was the other side of his head he hit. I don't know if I should take him to the doc or wait to see what happens. Advice, please! TIA.

Could he have gotten a bug bite? Some weeks ago my son did (we think anyway... saw 2 dimples which I think are the points at which bug bit him) and it started out very red, not swollen. By the end of the day it was swollen too. (Next day color was almost back to normal)

You can read my post here in case it is of any help.

I'll try some benadryl, thanks! I did look for a bite but didn't see anything really - It's a lot more swollen than your little boys' ear though. Bordering on puffy, but he swears it doesn't hurt!

I replied to the post by newmum, and my daughter had a similar issue with one ear. You can click her link again and read my reply-- hers was also puffier-looking and there was no apparent bite. It did get better on its own in several days, and while she said it never hurt, I did catch her playing with it a few times until the swelling subsided.

I did give him the dose of kids benadryl the pharmacist recommended. I'm going to give him a second dose after his nap. It appeared to go down a little after the first dose, so I'm hoping by the time the second kicks in it will be much better. I found a spot that might be a bite. We have bad mosquito problems in our neighborhood, and I have had really bad reactions to bites in the past, so maybe he does too sometimes. Thanks!
