Is there such a thing as low carb milk?

We have no dietary restrictions in our house, but currently prefer the taste of fat free milk. I just started back on a low carb diet and was wondering if there was anything besides possibly whole milk (which I cannot stand the taste of) that I can put in my cereal, cook with and put in my coffee that is low in carbs?

I second the unsweetened almond milk, I can't have ANY dairy at all so I've been using it for a while. The unsweetened chocolate almond milk is to die for! Sooo good! I use stevia to sweeten if needed (coffee bc I like it sweet and when drinking the choco straight).

I use it to bake, I use the original unsweetened for mashed potatoes, it's great in smoothies too, and I gotta have it in my coffee.

I think the Blue Diamond brand is best (and the least expensive at Trader Joes if you have one where you live) and have tried the Pacific brand but didn't like it.

Yep, there's a TJ's by my work and home. I'll check it out. Thanks, mama!

I'm going to have to try the almond milk. Do you know how much it is at TJ's, Tanya? I have to make a trip down to one to get a almond flour and a bunch of other gluten-free products. Can you use it in cooking/baking the same as you would cow's milk?

Cans of coconut milk is the best sub for a low carb diet or really any dairy free diet too... I dont' know if the almond milks have additives, but I always thought they did... the chemical vitamin A which is toxic, etc.

Can add water to make "milk" or not to make "cream".

Coconut is extremely beneficial for health as well b/c its unique in it's content of MCFA's medium chain fatty acids that kill viruses and boost immune system. It's fat is absorbed quickly for energy as well not requiring bile to digest:

Kefir or 24 hour yogurt should remove most of the sugars (carbs) and is fine on a low-carb diet. I'd drop the cereal instead, personally.

That said I think almond milk is yummy and it's super easy to make yourself and that way you can sweeten it with raw honey or stevia to taste and not have to deal with the synthetic stuff.
