normal? or something to be concerned about?

When DS is excited or really into an activity, many times he exhibits the following behavior...clenches his hands (together or in fists) really tight, tenses all muscles, grimaces or clenches his teeth, and sometimes shakes or shudders all over. He does the same thing, whether standing, sitting, etc.

It only lasts for a handful of seconds, and he's done this ever since he was a pretty small baby (he is now 2 yrs. old). I've hesitated to mention it to a doctor, mostly because I wrote it off as just being a quirk of his personality, but sometimes I start worrying that it's something more. Has anyone else had experience with this?

There is nothing else about his behavior or health that would cause me to question anything...he's your average spirited, loving, exasperating, bright little boy!

My DS used to do this to be "funny"... now he does it when he gets mad/frustrated. but only every now and then, and only for a few seconds. One of his little friends that is the same age also does it when angry. I think it is pretty normal but I am not a doctor.

I've known lots of toddlers that have done that. AFAIK it's pretty normal. My son did that as a toddler and has had developmental evaluations at 11 months and 3 years for unrelated things, and it was never a concern.

Thanks, ladies. That's good to know.
