So are any of you worried, with all the super speedy labors we've been seeing in this DDC, that you might not make it to the hospital in time? That was not a problem AT ALL with my first, since I had a slow, steady, fairly easy early labor for about 20 hours before needing to head out, but with a 40 minute drive (if no traffic), I'm a little worried when I see these 45 minute start-to-finish labors coming through. I actually would like to have a homebirth, but I'm not sure about an unassisted one. I know DH would freak out. Luckily, we have two EMTs on our street should we really need some help.
After 48 hours last time, I should be so lucky as to have a car birth :P But I'm not worried about it at all, even with the 20-30 min drive. One of the reasons I hired our doula is that she is an expert at staying at home as long as possible and deciding when to head in. I'll trust her judgment on that. If I'm truly worried, I'll check my own cervix as well. I *KNOW* I went in too soon with DD--twice (was sent home first time). In hindsight, I should have stayed home a little longer. My doula lives very close to the hospital, so we might labor at her home for a little bit or walk around close to the hospital if I'm feeling particularly antsy.
