What to do when 8 month old fights sleep?

My DS will be 8 months old at the end of this week. He is the ultimate sleep fighter. He will be tired (rubbing eyes, fussiness), and I try to get him to sleep by nursing him and walking him, but he just keeps fighting sleep. He would jerk his head or arch his back to wake himself up. It takes several tries to get him to sleep if I'm lucky. But most of the time, he fights sleep so much that we miss the nap time and he catches his second burst of energy. What am I doing wrong?

NOTHING.

you just have a super determined child.

i had one just like yours. she even gave up her first nap at 9 months.

the only way i could figure out was to run her ragged. we were at the park a LOT. she was a high energy baby and needed a LOT of physical exercise to tire her.

today even now at almost 8 yo she still needs far less sleep than most other kids her age.

Have you tried a carrier?

Our LO fights sleep in our arms but can't fight a carrier if it's at the end of the night. I can usually nurse him down now but when it doesn't work, we get the carrier.
