6 month old suddenly waking with gas in the night

DD has always been a gassy little thing but we've never noticed it causing her any discomfort. The last 3 nights she woken up at least twice a night kicking her legs, tossing and turning and then crying. I bicycle her legs and hold her and massage her tummy (for an hour this morning at 4 am) and eventually she starts farting a LOT and then poops and feels better. She has no signs of constipation and is very regular actually. Her poop has had quite a bit of mucus the last few days but is otherwise normal for her. She is EBF and has a good latch, etc. I do side lay nurse her and don't always burp her after (don't want to wake her up!) I avoid dairy but do have some soy and gluten in my diet (kellymom website says it doesn't matter - other people do so I never know what to do....)

It's disturbing because, well, it hurts her, and also because it's completely new...she's *never* had this problem before.

Oh, she also just got one tooth in and the other is really close.

Any ideas??

Teething can cause some mucus in stools, due to all the extra saliva. It might just be irritating her tummy. It's also not unusual for a baby to need to wake up to poop first thing in the morning. I don't know why, but both of mine have done it.
