Newborn diaper stash

Hi. I'm already getting diapers ready(due next year). I'm going to be ordering my first bunch when I get paid.
I don't have a lot of money so I was thinking prefolds and covers. But I don't know how many to get?
I was hoping I could get by on say 24 prefolds and 6-8 covers, would that work? I'm fine with doing with a little more laundry.
Also can I use baby wash cloths as wipes?

Thank you!

I managed fine with a stash about that size, but I was definitely washing like crazy. I don't mind washing often (par for the course in this house), but it was really hard if something came up that messed with my schedule.

This time around, I'm looking to double my stash so I don't feel quite as pressured.

Baby wash cloths work, and a lot of people love them. Personally, I prefer wipes that are a bit more... substantial. Especially when dealing with newborn blow outs! 6x6 sturdy wipes are awesome.

My funny: My ds is potty training, so we've moved to Pull-Ups for night time (I'm not washing one or two diapers at a time, and I'm sure not going to let them sit for a week!). With that switch, we decided to grab a box of disposable wipes. They feel so dang flimsy after 3 years of cloth! I feel like I'm guaranteed to get poop on my hands!

Thank you so much!

I hope I can get more and maybe some AIOs or packets even.

My newborn stash is about the same - 1 dozen prefolds, 10 or 11 fitteds and 8 covers. I have no pockets or AIO's but may invest in some later. We will probably be doing laundry every other day, but with a 3 yo we do it every day anyway!
I really like Green Mountain Diapers, I think they have great prefolds and fitteds and the prices are reasonable. Don't be afraid to go used/seconds too.

Where can I get used diapers? I don't know of anywhere.

I like Green Mountain Diapers too. the site anyway. That's where I'm ordering from.

Thanks.

I think 36 prefolds would be much easier in terms of washing if you want to do it every other day (esp. since you need to have some to use while you're washing and drying). Or maybe mix in a few fitteds in there for easy middle-of-the-night changes. The number of covers seems good though.

go to diaperswappers.com or to the trading post diapers section here on MDC. There are almost always prefolds up for grabs for about $1/each.
