Who is still painting?

I currently have the 5 wooden shelves from my son's linen closet in my garage drying. Tomorrow I'll flip them over and do the other side. They are colored to coordinate with the shower curtain: purple, orange, blue, green and pink.

I just finished his closet on Sunday. It is a bright, spring green. A lot like the small round monster in Monster's Inc.

I have the first coat of primer on his windows. Hopefully I can get those finished this week and then start clearing his room out to paint it.

His red bathroom turned out awesome! I should post a picture.

Good for you! It sounds like you picked some really fun colors!

I'm not still painting - I would have loved to "drop everything" for another few weeks and get more done, but I have to be realistic and take a break to tend to other priorities. I won't get to more rooms until the fall, unfortunately - the summer is just too full. I am trying to make peace with the understanding that it's okay if it takes time. Maybe it will be another year until the rest of the rooms are done. I hope not, but I'm ohly human, I'm doing it all myself, and I have to be realistic.

But keep your momentum going if you can..

It IS fun. I figure his bathroom and bedroom are the two rooms where I can be totally fun and silly.

On the timing, dude...I've lived here almost 2 years. Before starting on my son's stuff I had a grand total of 3 rooms done. THREE. I'd like to get my son's rooms done in the next month then maybe, MAYBE start the guest suite. But I still can't decide on the exact shade so who knows when the heck that will happen. July is crazy. Maybe September?

Take your time. Life happens. Slow and steady. Plus if I do too much I get burned out with it and start resenting the work instead of enjoying it as something creative that makes our house pretty.

ETA: Oh, and I had our living room torn up for just over 6 weeks. It took me FOREVER to do that room. And it is the first thing you see when you walk in. I threw 2 parties with that room torn up last summer. Life went on just fine. ;-)

Our walls are all painted nicely. I do have some touch-up painting to do, though. I also have home decor to paint. A whole pile of it, actually.

I am painting the kitchen cabinets and replacing the hardware this week. Removing the really old cheap screws has turned out pretty difficult as has using the semigloss super thick paint that is what has been used all over our house. Dh went out and bought some screw extractor tool today and new screw drivers. I have learned a lot about screws, hinges and sanding this week. Hoping to have it done by Saturday.....but boy is it slow hard work! I can't wait though....it will look so much better soon!

Wow, that is a LOT of work. Good for you! Are you painting the insides too?

Yesterday I learned that wooden shelves can only be put back one way. If they are flipped over, the will.not.fit. Of course, I had them all flipped the wrong way. Had a bit of touch up painting to do myself. Now just a few coats of poly and I'll be done.

We're painting! DH is working on painting DS's furniture navy blue, the walls are light blue. Should be cute!

Yes! Painting is a lot of work! And yes I am doing the insides as well. Our house is almost 100 years old and nothing is standard. I am so inspired by everyone's color choices and all that is available but we live in the dark woods and have somehow decided to stick with the semi gloss white that is everywhere here. We do have lots of color in our furniture and curtains. I must say the paint we are using though seems so thick and difficult to apply without leaving permanent streaks. I have tried a soft brush, roller and am now using a sponge brush. It looks good on the cabinets but I am not so sure about when I move to the living room walls which are tongue and groove panels.

Any tricks to applying thicker gloss paint?

Best of luck to anyone painting today!
