Peed right through the PF!

So about half an hour before bedtime, little guy was getting really fussy, so I asked DH to check his dipe (don't know why I have to remind him to check them when he's on baby duty), and he was pretty soaked. So I figured I'd just put him in a PF for the 30 minutes until the bedtime routine. A few minutes later DH asks me what this puddle is that's on the floor that the baby is crawling through, and since I have no idea what he's talking about, I go look... and of course it's pee.

These are brand new GMD red edge organics. I knew he was a heavy wetter, but geeze!! They should be able to hold him for 30 minutes without soaking the floor. I've had him do it before with a 2 layer PF, but I didn't expect him to be able to do it to a 6 layer (or are they 8?).

Mostly this is just a rant, but if anyone has any thoughts for me, I'm open to them. I guess I need to go ahead and order the UtN pfs and sell the red edges.

ARe they prepped right? If they aren't, they won't be fully absorbent. They can actually repel.

Are you saying it leaked out of the cover? Or was he coverless? Is there a chance it leaked out the leg or something?

The GMD prefolds are 8 layers thick.

If your son pees a lot, and puts some force behind his pee (kinda like you would if you're trying to pee faster) then it would totally go through the prefold. I doubt anything can hold a forceful pee back. If he'd been in a cover, the pee would have 'run' off and been soaked up by the nearby cloth.

I've never had luck with coverless either. My ds just likes to pee 'hard' I guess.

We've had em probably 6 or 8 weeks now, so they're fully prepped. And he was coverless. I figured 30 minutes wouldn't be a big deal. Guess I learned my lesson on that one.

I agree that it's because he wasn't wearing a cover. My son will create a puddle through a prefold in no time, but in a cover he can go 4-5 hours before needing a change. I assume it's like JTA Mom said - the cover just contains it and it's reabsorbed by the outside of the prefold.
