and yet another name thread...names that start with vowels

Thread Starter
We are looking for a boy's name, one that is not so "out there", but not too popular either.
Our first son is Isaac, and I'd like (but not require) another name starting with a vowel. Our list includes:

Evan
Asher
Elliott
Odin

(Odin might be a bit too unique for my taste--DH loves it of course)

DH is realllly pushing for Obediah. Obi is an adorable nickname, but I'm not crazy about the -iah names, too biblical sounding for our family.

I like Aaron, but might be to matchy matchy with the double A.

So, name gurus, whatdaya got?

I love Odin and considered it this time around but doesn't quite flow as well as some others with my other dc names.
Evan is VERY poular around here right now.

You'll get some great suggestions here~ from your list I think Odin and Elliot flow well with Isaac. If you love Aaron~ go for it~ I wouldn't think matchy matchy at all with the double AAs.
Congrrats!!

I love Elliott, maybe because there is a cutie in DS2's class with the same name, and his parents are really nice too. I agree with the PP, it does go nice with Issac, and it doesn't seem terribly popular yet either.

I like Aaron and don't think it's too matchy matchy either, since they don't start with the same letters. It's actually cute. I'd watch out for Elliot because it seems to be converting to a girl's name (not that that should matter, but if he gets to kindergarten and there are 3 girls named Elliot, he might not be thrilled). Evan's nice too. Not thrilled about Obediah either.

Oh, and for a laugh, here's an unusual vowel name from my family tree:

Onesimus

I love the name Elliot but of course I have a very cute Elliot in my home! I also like Odin (which happens to be the first name of a VERY handsome VERY sweet OB at the practice I use). Odin was actually on our list last pregnancy until we said it with our last name, no go there.

I've always loved the name Aaron, it is my DH's name as well. Odin is my grandfather's middle name.. I went to highschool with an "Obi" (I don't think it was a nickname). We are planning on using the name Ian for our second son, due in November. I think any of those names go well with Isaac. What about Owen?

The name I really love, that my husband will not agree to, is Ezra. I think it goes great with Isaac!

I love Elliot too, the only thing that would stop me from using it is I keep meeting little girls with the name Elliot! I also like Odin

Here are more vowel names:
Owen
Ian
Oscar
Ezra
Arthur
August

I love Odin! I don't think it's too far out. It's not common but not weird sounding either. It was my #1 name but a close friend feels it's too similar to her son's name Auden and, though I'm disappointed, I respect that as we see a lot of each other and our boys are likely to grow up together.

I'm glad to see Asa mentioned by pp! Since Odin got bumped, it's our new top choice but have yet to meet anyone who's heard it before. We found it on a gravestone from the 1830s. I think it sounds great with Isaac but you may find it too unusual. Who knows though - all those oldies are coming back and it may not sound so uncommon in 5-10 years.

Wow, a gravestone?? Interesting -- never thought about that as a source of inspiration, but it makes sense!! How do you pronounce Asa? "Ayzah"?

I LOVE Asa and would use it in a heartbeat if we didn't know someone that has given the name a bad association for me. It is pronounced A-suh. It sounds great with Isaac, too, which I also like.

Aaron or Asher are the best so far.

Asher or Asa are awesome.

Elliot is now a girl's name. I don't agree with folks giving girls boy's names but it happens all the time lately. I think this is why the boy names need to sound even stronger. So yeah, if you didn't have Isaac...... I'd go with Odin and Thor.

I went to school with a girl named Asa. She pronounced Ay-sa.

So far, I think Odin and Ezra are the best vowel names that go well with Isaac!
Another vote for Odin!

My brother is Ian and my nephew is Alasdair (the more traditional Scottish spelling, it's often Alistair or variations thereof).

Archer would have probably been the name of our boy, had we ever had one.

We would have called him Archie quite a bit.
