miniature donkey's for guardian animal?

Does anyone here have any knowledge of this? Do they work for this, and if so, which sex should we be looking for? We are having quite the coyote problem, and cannot get a LGD because we have other dogs as pets.

I'm not an expert but mini donks are small and can get eaten by a pack of coyotes. You might consider a full sized donkey for a guardian animal.

What about a llama? A guy my husband worked with used one and said they will kill coyotes.

I also think I'd consider a standard donkey rather than a mini, especially if coyotes are a known problem.

And please forgive my confusion... why can't you have an LGD and other dogs?

My dh doesn't wish to have a llama. I would love one.

My mom has LGD's for her goat herd. She told me that to have the LGD do it's job properly, it has to have run of the whole property, and we have 3 family dogs who currently have radio fencing for almost all of our land. She told me that a GOOD LGD would kill our dogs thinking it was doing its job of protecting our goats.

I wanted to look into a smaller donkey because I figured it would be cheaper to feed, lol.

We had a miniature donkey running with our sheep several years ago (actually, two.) The jack decided to start killing sheep. The Jenny was ok, until she was pregnant. Then she took to trying to kill lambs/kids as well.

I wouldn't go down that path again, personally.
