New layout (6 yo and newborn)

Currently my 6 year old sleeps between Dh and me in our king sized bed. In November, Baby will be here and here is my idea... Turning king bed sideways (so we can get into closets/the room!) and putting twin bed next to it. Having 6 yr old sleep on twin, then daddy on king with baby in middle and then me (then the wall).

What do you think? I can't think of any other method unless someone has ideas!

That's basically what we did with my 3 yo, except we still had our crib sidecarred, so the 3 yo sleeps in that. Baby is between me and DH. It works out pretty well, but DS is getting too big to fit in the crib, so I'm planning to do what you're doing by putting him in a full sized futon.

Sounds good to me! Ds2
is due thus weekeend and we are still testing
out different sleeping arrangements. We have a similar setup, but with a toddler bed instead if a twin. Ds1 is obsessing about coming
into the "big bed", so a twin at the same
height might help...

i think it's a great idea! only other thing i could think of is getting a side-car co-sleeper for the new babe

My now seven year old has decided to end cosleeping, because he's tired of being woken by the baby. And he's suddenly so much more independent it's kinda scary. Just to warn you that your 6 yo may decide the same.

I've always heard that it's safest to have baby between mom and the wall rather than between mom and dad, otherwise, sounds great!

Just wanted to update that this is what we've done. It's wall, baby, me, daddy and 6 year old. Sometimes daddy and 6 year old will swap and I'll get to sleep next to both of my babies. I love it! So far 6 year old isn't bothered by baby, but she doesn't wake often which I attribute to the beauty of cosleeping!
