My diet is killing me

I feel terrible lately. Really achy, run down. My breast milk is gone, AF came back yesterday and I have no motivation to do anything, let alone exercise. DH and I both work FT. I'm so tired that it's hard to cook and therefore I keep eating garbage. How do I get out of this rut?

I'm not a professional or anything close but have you considered some postpartum depression as being the reason for some of the symptoms you have listed?

Just a thought...

Hope you get to feeling better soon..

I thought about that. I could call my doc. But would it start suddenly at 5 months postpartum?

If you've recently lost your milk, it can absolutely pop up now. Even if you hadnt, increased stress can do it.

To answer the original question though, i recommend meal planning, weekend prep, feeding the freezer and crockpot meals. And your oldest may be old enough to start helping in the kitchen (your avg 5 yo can wash veg, prep a salad, measure ingredients, etc).

I'll deviate from other posters and say.. that AF, she's a b&^%$!!!!

when i got af back 2 months ago, i felt the same way. i've always had the hormonal drag and moodiness with my cycle, though.

I'd suggest high calcium & magnesium foods, and say it will get better in the next few cycles. also, for future thought: i had my placenta encapsulated, and i've taken a few with AF and pre-AF, and it helps so much. it's really amazing.

in the same boat, and my goodness..it's so so so hard to cook with a little one. we're really trying to do some food prep all at once, toss some potatoes & sweet potatoes in teh oven whenever it's on, chop everything all at once, cook meat ahead of time and freeze.. all those little things make throwing together meals easier. a spinach & chicken quesadillia with beans suddenly becomes a 5 minute assembly rather than a cook the chicken, cook the beans, etc. project. my dh is able to do lots with cooking, and grilling is pretty quick, too. what we do at this point is have one of us entertain the babe while the other one cooks. nothing could get done otherwise.
the crockpot is a bonus, too, as is doing a whole chicken or turkey breast in a crockpot or dutch oven and then using that with different ingredients all week. hugs, mama!

Having a temporary reduction in breastmilk output is very common with menstruation. I wouldn't jump the the conclusion that you've "lost your milk" just yet.

We all have different biochemistries, and what's healthy for me may be unhealthy for somebody else. I've been doing really well on the Blood Type Diet, which means, for an O like me, fewer grains, lots of veggies, and plenty of meat. People with blood type A do the opposite" no red meat, lots of beans and grains and veggies. So I don't feel comfortable giving you blanket advice such as "eat more red meat" or "eat less red meat" because either advice could be the one you need.

Yes! I always have a huge dip in supply after I ovulate, and it takes a bit to build it back up again before I ovulate again.
