I will watch, very cool! When does it air?

I've watched a few homebirths on the show, and natural births, and the one thing I can't STAND is when the narrarator says something like "but when the contractions become unbearable...will she be able to have the birth she wants???" It's always so doomsday and bugs me!!

ETA: I loved it! What a great birth you had. awesome. I love how you said Hello! when you saw your LO. And you are a strong woman.

How is your husband now?

OK and then do tell about the process of the show! I would love to know the ins and outs (as much as it annoys me sometime I still get sucked in!)

I just watched the whole thing.

Like the PP, I didn't much care for the narration at the beginning AND I would have liked to have seen the out-take where you say that you never considered having a different birth, no matter how intense the contractions got included but other than that I actually didn't feel a need to throw anything while watching your episode! That's the first time that's ever happened.

How cute are you and your husband? I could tell just from the first part how crazy you guys are about each other. And your sons are so, so adorable. Way to go, mama! I hope I have as smooth a birth as you come January.

DH and I just got married (and I mean just - it was Monday) but I finished the conversion process to Judaism last year. We're Reform, but I loved all the parts they kept in about you teaching your son about your faith from such a early age, letting him learn by example. The blessing out-take was very touching as well.

Mazel tov!

ETA: Oh! The part where you're in the pool (during what seems/looks like transition, maybe?) and your DH goes, "for what it's worth, you look beautiful," - you so do. Absolutely gorgeous, mama - even in labor.

I absolutely loved that. Your family is darling. Elish is so precocious--and the hair! Fabulous job showing how peaceful and wonderful a homebirth can be. I really enjoyed the outtakes, too. The blessing was beautiful. I'm not Jewish, but definitely religious and I think the Jewish traditions are fascinating. I hope your husband is doing better. So glad he's done so well already after going through that. And of course, you are incredible for doing everything yourself. You've inspired me with your attitude and your relationship.

My friend, mamaverdi, sent me the link earlier and I watched the whole thing. Loved it! Great job, mama! It is wonderful to see REAL birth on shows like A Baby Story.

Your boys are just darling, and one can't help but love your family. I hope your DH is thoroughly healed by now, too.

Congrats again!

Thanks everyone! It was a pretty cool process to be part of the show. Contrary to popular belief, we did NOT get paid to be in the show! The only thing we got out of it was a package of diapers (product placement...it's good for the producers that we don't use cloth, or it would have a been a problem )

I am happy to answer questions about our experience. We were very pleased with the final product, though like you, I could have skipped the open "will she be able to take the pain????" narration (I guess they want to make it "dramatic" - as if birth isn't dramatic enough?!). Other than that, the producers did a great job portraying our story in a genuine, non-judgemental way. We are very pleased with the final product and glad to have this experience and have such a special momento of Noam's birth (and really cool that Elish was a star....the only question is, if we have more kids in the future (please God!), the future kids will ask..."Where is MY "A Baby Story" show? )

And yeah, the comment of us being "very jewish" was silly and pointless, but hey, that's a risk we take when we put something in the public domain.

As for DH, he's not healed (it's a long, complicated recovery process, multiple issues), but he is getting stronger. He continues therapy and I do see progress in his healing, though there are ups and downs. He can't work anymore right now because of a change in his condition, but hopefully that's temporary and he'll continue to get stronger with therapy. Thanks for your words of support and encouragement.

I actually caught your 'A Baby Story' episode on tv the other day. Beautiful family and beautiful home birth! Congratulations. Nice to know you're an MDC mama!

I have to say, I saw that episode on my own a few weeks ago and was SO happy to see another Orthodox Jewish family represented in such a positive light! Your homebirth was beautiful as were both of your children.

Refuah Shleima to your husband!

That was such a sweet show. Elish is just so sweet! Your birth was great and you totally worked it! I could have done without the dramatic narration in the beginning, but other than that, they did a good job. I hope your husband is recovering well and that your new little boy is bringing you as much joy as your first.

I saw this on TLC a couple of weeks ago when they had several homebirth Baby Stories.Yours was soo beautiful!Thank you so much for sharing and especially for sharing your traditions.I think it helps to add to the idea that not every mama who homebirths is a crazy naked hippy there are many other kinds of mamas who feel this is right and you can be modest as well. You showed just how normal it can be.You and your husband make a great team, what lucky beautiful children!Congrats and many healing thoughts as your husband recovers ( and I hope you are getting help too).
