Night time potty learning

Hi, We are wanting to move our 3.5 y/o ds out of diapers completely. He surprised us 8 mo ago by moving out of diapers in the day and we've been trying to coax him out at night. He told us that he's all done on July 4th and so we're sticking with that. Any tips? He used to be dry all night, but frequently now he's wet in the morning. Sometimes he wakes up at night, but he can't get the diaper off himself to pee. I know we'll be reviewing how much liquid he drinks within an hour of bed and maybe waking him up once or twice in the night to pee at first. I'm just not looking forward to all the sheets I'm going to have to wash and his sadness at waking up wet. Any tips would be helpful.

We got some cloth night-time training pants that are easy up and down so we're not haggling with a diaper.

Limiting liquids has been proven not to be effective. Night time dryness is a developmental skill rather then wanting to. Waking him up to pee will be your best bet if you are wanting to do it. I have a 3.5 year old as well who has been PLed for 1.5 years who can not stay dry at night, she isn't capable of it yet.

He's had long stretches of being dry before and still is occasionally. My dh usually goes to bed much later than the rest of us and it wouldn't be any great burden to have him get ds on the potty once in the wee hours. Then we just have to be tuned to any wimpering which sometimes proceeds night time accidents. I wouldn't be pushing so hard to take the diapers away if he'd never been dry before.
