Well child visit today.
I'm not sure why I went.
Boy, she TICKS ME OFF.
ok, so among the gems of wisdom i heard today (paraphrased since i didn't take notes):
on vax:
"Unvaccinated children are causing all of the vaccinated kids to catch measles, mumps and rubella and die.... Do you WANT your kid to get REALLY sick with measles?"
then a little later
"well, vaccines aren't as effective as we thought they were so now we're asking people to get a 2nd dose"
"you'll have to get them for school.. your child has had them before so you can't try to tell me that you have religious opposition to it"

on refusing fluoride:
"it's a necessary nutrient for their teeth to grow"

on our diet:
"you need to stop feeding him processed foods."
(upon hearing that we don't use processed foods due to allergy/intolerance issues and listing restrictions)
"well, he has to be vitamin deficient then. there's nothing left for you to eat if you take out all of that"

about ds2's hair being long (!!! really??):
"well, it needs to be cut. you shouldn't let "superstition" get in the way of caring for your child"

regarding his behaviour in her office (got bored and wanted to leave and exhibited natural shyness):
"he should be in daycare. he needs to be socialized. he needs the structure and discipline daycare will provide. you obviously can't do it since you have another little one"

WTF does she care what your kid's hair looks like?! Did you tell her maybe she should mind her own business and just do her job? Arg.
Woah, JR, that's nuts! I don't think I'd be ever going back. Are you laughing at the ridiculousness yet?

Dd's stopped sleeping. And is being totally sweet and endearing about it, at least at night. Not sure what changed. When I think about it, I'm not sure what got her to a good spot in the first place, though.

No, I just looked at her with wide eyes and said "Uh huh... Uh.huh.... Uhhh.... uh HUH." I mean, she has said and done some appalling things in the past (this is the doctor I transferred from for myself but was told I couldn't transfer DS2) but.... really? I mean, just.... REALLY??!
The kind of humourous part of this is that my present doctor, when I mentioned that I had an appointment with this doctor for a WCV, said "Really? Ookay. Have fun with that."

I'm sort of laughing at it, but at the same time I'm still pretty annoyed.

That is really annoying.

What a night here... DD just could not go to sleep- it took over an hour, with lots of screaming and crying.

And just before bedtime we had some guy knock on our door with a spray bottle of something... he was talking really fast, and said "don't worry, I'm not selling magazine subscriptions. I've already talked to all your neighbors- John, Bob, Lisa- You know them, right?" (I don't remember the actual names he used, but they certainly weren't any of our neighbors!) The whole thing was weird, DP ended up shutting the door in the guys face. I was about to yell at DP to shut the door (I was standing in the hallway, listening), because I was getting a BAAAAD vibe from this dude. I followed the guy 2 blocks down the road after he left our house, and he didn't stop at ANY other houses. Then looked on our community Google group, and someone posted that they had a different really aggressive salesperson at their house earlier, and it's a really shady company selling Wonder Cleaner or something like that... but there are a bunch of articles talking about the company and how their reps have been arrested for selling drugs, theft, rape, and more. So now I'm all paranoid that this guy was casing the neighborhood and our house is going to get broken into tonight or something.

Shannon. Hoping DD decides sleep is good soon.

And that does sound creepy, CS.

REALLY? Holy wah. How did she think that was helpful???

Today I woke up with adrenaline rushing through me. No reason, nothing happened. It's happened a couple of times this week I am going to the ND on Monday and I am hoping she'll have some ideas to help. If any of you wise ladies would mind taking a peak and see if you have any suggestions for me on my about me thread that would be most appreciated (it is long, sorry about that in advance )

Today is going to be a busy day. DP is at work all day and I have my two plus my niece and nephew from 8am to 2:30pm. So 3 year old, 2 year old, 1 year old, and 5 month old (plus the one inside me ). We don't drive so I'm trying to decide if I have the energy to take them all on the bus to the Early Years Center for a play.

Which also reminds me I need to think of something for lunch. I was going to do rice or pasta but my niece is rice intolerant and our pasta is rice pasta because my two are gf. Hmmm...

On the plus side for food DP made a quinoa pudding (similiar to rice pudding) for us all and I'm loving it. It's safe for both boys to eat too

So why is she still your pediatrician? I mean her ignorance is really astounding. Especially the part about feeding processed food.

That is scary. Next time call the police.

JR - I switch doctors after things like that (like the one that said it was my fault I got a UTI because I had the nerve to go on vacation with DH and not bring the kids; or the one that said it was perfectly normal to vomit bile at every meal when DS was 2 weeks old, and I HAD to have milk even if it made him vomit). The stress of the visit is just not worth it for me. I mean, a haircut? Even if it wasn't the style (which it is now), it's a tradition, so what business is it of theirs. And yes I vax, but what a wacky argument - that the unvaxed kids are giving vaxed kids the diseases? that doesn't even make sense.

So Kathy, I went to get on your site and I got an attack warning from google--something about spyware and viruses coming through your site...I was worried that maybe your site is down or being used to pass something on? Or it could just be nothing...but I'm no computer expert so I'm waiting for DH to come home, since he is, lol...
I was hacked a week ago and my brother fixed it and we changed all the passwords. Apparently I got hacked again, so he's changing the site. He's hoping it doesn't mess up the search feature though. If anyone needs recipes, let me know.

I get Sweet Potato Flour from Barry's Farm (online) 5 lbs. at a time. My DS can't do white potato so we can't do regular potato flour.

Brownies

1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. corn-free baking powder
1/2 tsp. sea salt
3/4 c. maple or palm sugar
3/4 c. date sugar
2/3 c. canola oil
2 tsp. corn-free vanilla
1/2 c. water
3/4 c. sorghum flour
3/4 c. sweet potato flour

Combine. Bake at 350F for 25 minutes.

I really don't remember this one. It's been a long time since I used date sugar, so I have no idea how this one came out. And I didn't write down what size pan either. oops.

Brownies

6 Tbs. coconut oil
1 tsp. corn-free baking powder
3/4 c. almond meal
1/2 c. sweet potatoes mashed
1/4 c. sweet potato flour
1/4 c. flaked coconut
5 Tbs. cocoa
1/8 tsp. sea salt
1/2 c. agave syrup
1/4 c. maple syrup

Pour into mini muffin tin greased, or lined with papers. 375F for 19 minutes. I do remember that DS really liked that one.

Yum, Kath, this sounds good. I have so been searching for another grain/dairy/egg/soy free recipe, especially one I can use up leftover sweet pots with!

I think it sounds like you need to start scheduling in a nap! In some countries that is built into the day anyway, isn't it?

I did! I called the non-emergency number right after he left and gave them a description. They said they would drive around and try to find him and see what he's up to. Maybe that will at least scare them out of the neighborhood...

Exactly. That is when we stopped going to a pediatrician.

We had a man selling the magazines (and another time the all purpose cleaner). I was glad to help him out. I gave him what cash I had and got his phone number and kids names and want to help him with Xmas presents later this year. They are trying to make a living, just have different obstacles and opportunities due to their upbringing, family support, nutrition! and education. We each have a different path.

The all purpose cleaner lady was basically abandoned by her manager when she called for emergency help due to being unprepared for her menstrual cycle and no one would let her in the house to use the bathroom. That is another long story. I drove her around trying to find the manager, get some food, etc. She was just 18 and lived in another state. They bus them around and leave them for 12 hours without food or bathroom access, having to sell stuff to pay their way home. It sucks. Their family situations are not ones they are wanting to return to and it is just an opportunistic company which is misleading the "sales" team. I had no idea the lack of support and scary situation the sales people are put in.

I think I am in love with my chiro. Not only does she totally rock the Webster Technique, she gives me great suggestions about stretches and yoga exercises. DS2 wasn't his usual calm self when she came into the waiting room. I asked for another minute before I left him with Sam in the waiting room and went in with her. (Turns out he didn't take his 'happy pills' this morning - 5-htp, gaba, mag).

We started talking allergies and what we rocking mamas here have been doing while she was working on me. She didn't blink an eye with my biochem talk and then I started talking about neurotransmitters and she said that she was so glad that I am talking about neurotransmitters because it is not just biochem it is all about the brain and neurotransmitters. We had a nice chat. She studied all this as undergrad. sigh. so nice.

Too bad she is going on maternity leave 4 weeks before my due date.

That's awesome. Is she in Arlington? Nice to have someone close by.
