I don't think she does any of this stuff (except chiro) in a professional capacity. I could certainly consider her though.

So I don't know what to do. I am soooo tired. And the kids just don't listen to me. It's a beautiful, perfect day and all I feel is tired and annoyed. And, I have to shop & pack up the house to go on vacation. You know, the allergy thing. I am so just not up for this.

The all purpose cleaner lady was basically abandoned by her manager when she called for emergency help due to being unprepared for her menstrual cycle and no one would let her in the house to use the bathroom. That is another long story. I drove her around trying to find the manager, get some food, etc. She was just 18 and lived in another state. They bus them around and leave them for 12 hours without food or bathroom access, having to sell stuff to pay their way home. It sucks. Their family situations are not ones they are wanting to return to and it is just an opportunistic company which is misleading the "sales" team. I had no idea the lack of support and scary situation the sales people are put in.

Pat
You're a nicer/braver person than me. We had a magazine seller come by when we lived in Austin, and after she left (we bought a magazine), I looked up the company and found pretty much what you did. Next time someone came by, I asked if they needed help, and she kind of looked at me funny. We don't get them much over here, but I'll try and remember to be more helpful next time.

Yeah, I'm not sure why I even took him for a WCV, except that he hadn't been in over a year. Not that that really matters or anything. Just my own worries of being labelled a "negligent parent", iykwim. As I said, both my present physician and I knew that there was likely going to be an issue with this general practitioner (there are no paediatricians in our town... there may be a few people who are geriatricians though... Hopefully at least Deb will laugh at that. ).
Honestly, her basic attitude towards everything is that she's a doctor and knows better than I do- to the point that she feels it necessary to tell me EVERY time I see her that I need to keep my children away from poison. I think a lot of her spiel is basically rote that she natters off to everyone and she's not entirely sure how to deal with a thinking human being- either that or it's based on her own opinions as a parent (seeing as her kid is assumably vaxed, my unvaxed kids would then be "threats" based on her opinion, right? ).
blah blah blah
Anyway, trying to work on a 10 year plan.

Bach flower essence Elm and Hornbeam help me 'when temporarily overwhelmed with responsibilities'. So, RR helps too. Or Natural Calm or a bit of folate. Or chocolate.

It's more the physical tiredness than the emotional stuff that has me immobilized now. I'll call it inertia.

Awesome advice. s

Now, I'm not looking for "help" in that I'm getting attacked or anything so don't come charging in on your white steeds or anything. But could you ladies who homeschool come give your opinions in my thread in HSing? I've gotten a lot of good opinions, suggestions and options already but I would love to have more!

Ok Pat....

First of all, we've had plenty of salespeople at our door in the year that we've lived here. I've chatted with all of them, even gave some of them our business. I have NO problem with salespeople. A lot were college-age kids, probably working a crappy commission job, and I know that. (And yes, I have had one of those really young magazine people that travel across the country at my door many years ago; she was without a ride, and I let her hang out in my house for about an hour and chatted with her.) I'm not the kind of person who gets scared and paranoid just because someone knocks on my door.

The energy coming off this guy was B.A.D.; I could feel it without even looking at him (in fact I never did see his face.) I don't know how else to explain it to you. There was nothing overtly suspicious about him by societal standards- he was a young, white male, clean shaven, clean clothes, button-down shirt. But I did mention that he was talking really fast and slammed a piece of paper up on our door without telling us who he was or what company he was with; also lied about talking to our neighbors. He either really, REALLY enjoyed his job, or he was on speed.

I'm pretty sure I also mentioned that someone in our community group posted about another one of these salespeople yesterday, and got the specific name of the product they were selling. When she looked up this company, she found all sorts of reports about suspicious AND criminal activity by these salespeople (including identity theft, theft, rape, and murder.) The Better Business Bureau rates the company a D- because they've gotten so many complaints. The Attorney General of Oregon put out a letter 2 years ago about this particular company, saying the wave of salespeople that year were the worst they ever dealt with (as far as criminal offenses.)

So before you go judging me for judging this guy, please realize that I am fully capable of compassion and human understanding, but that I also follow my intuition when I sense danger (especially around my home and family.) And I'm pretty positive that in this case, my intuition was correct.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way and feel like I'm attacking you, because that's not my intention. I just feel like some of your posts come across as very preachy or holier-than-thou (whether you mean them to or not) and that attitude just infuriates me. Again, I know that's probably not what you're intending, but please be aware that's how your posts come across (to me) at times.

I was hacked a week ago and my brother fixed it and we changed all the passwords. Apparently I got hacked again, so he's changing the site. He's hoping it doesn't mess up the search feature though. If anyone needs recipes, let me know.

Brownies

1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. corn-free baking powder
1/2 tsp. sea salt
3/4 c. maple or palm sugar
3/4 c. date sugar
2/3 c. canola oil
2 tsp. corn-free vanilla
1/2 c. water
3/4 c. sorghum flour
3/4 c. sweet potato flour

Combine. Bake at 350F for 25 minutes.

I really don't remember this one. It's been a long time since I used date sugar, so I have no idea how this one came out. And I didn't write down what size pan either. oops.

Brownies

6 Tbs. coconut oil
1 tsp. corn-free baking powder
3/4 c. almond meal
1/2 c. sweet potatoes mashed
1/4 c. sweet potato flour
1/4 c. flaked coconut
5 Tbs. cocoa
1/8 tsp. sea salt
1/2 c. agave syrup
1/4 c. maple syrup

Pour into mini muffin tin greased, or lined with papers. 375F for 19 minutes. I do remember that DS really liked that one.
Thanks for typing these out for me, Kathy.

I totally understand. This is why we're not going anywhere this summer, even just camping. (Well, that and finances, lol.)

CS, I'm sorry you felt judged. I trust your intuition and appreciate your feedback about how you experience (some of) my posts. I certainly do not feel attacked and you are not the first to perceive my way of posting as 'holier than thou', at times.

I have never doubted your compassion.

I think I was on foot. And I still owe you an email (ditto to CS) but I think I should go help with dinner--it's a _really_ early schedule here, wakeup at 6am, 6 or 6:30pm to start the bedtime routine. Messes with me that the kids wake up AND go to sleep when it's light. Messed with me back in high school to go to school in the dark and come home in the dark too (if I had anything going on after classes).

I'm not sure we'd all make it out of the warzone called a grocery store with all of our limbs if I were to take my kids shopping. You're far braver than I.

Thanks for coming to weigh in. Yes, I'm totally looking forward to your email.
I wish I could get our bedtime that early... I DO need to work on routines with the kids. It's part of what I am working on in my plan.
Up north where I used to live, it was perfectly normal to go to and come home from school in the dark in winter. It didn't get light out until 8:30 or 9am and got dark around 4pm. In summer, although it wasn't "light" outside, it wasn't exactly "dark" until around 11pm or midnight and that only lasted until 5 or 6am.

Would painful blisters on the roof of your mouth be a food allergy? I have them. They hurt.
Yes, I totally need an earlier bedtime routine around here too. My kids are just NOT getting enough sleep. Especially DS1. He will not settle down at night, wakes early, and just does not get enough sleep. What process is that indicative of again? Not converting glutamates into GABA? OR having too many glutamates? Or something else?

I was actually about to go post over in home magt about what kind of window coverings to get to make it darker in our rooms. It is light at 5:30 am and it is just NOW getting dark and it's almost 9:30 pm.

I just feel like I am doing him a disservice by not helping him get more sleep. I think this is a big factor. He has always been like this, and bedtime has always been a big struggle.

We bake with almond flour a lot. We are grain-free though. We do eat eggs, and that helps with teh fluff factor. However, I have done it without eggs, subbed mashed fruit, and it's just denser but still yummy. I think if you could use some kind of gums or starch it would help, but we are on SCD so we don't use anything else.

ETA: We do however use baking soda, and I have found this makes a big difference, using enough baking soda.

Ugh, I'm sorry chlobo. I can relate. Have you ever tried eating grain-free and/or sort of low-carb primal? I know that diet is huge for me on this front. When I am eating low carb, higher protein, no grains, potatoes, sugar, etc, it is amazing the difference in my energy and motivation.

JR, did this gal actually go to medical school?? Aaack, run, far away.

Tonight is the reason I have no confidence in my cooking and hate to share our food with other people. Made a stir-fry-ish dinner with my mom, subbed a few things (some salt and a little bit of ACV for the soy sauce), winged it on amounts for several things since we were making a much larger amount than the original recipe called for (and without a super powerful industrial size wok, we couldn't actually stir fry, but cooked in a hot skillet)... and my dad hated it. He was polite and all, but excused himself early and threw out his food and made a cheese sandwich for himself.

I thought it was pretty yummy, I ate seconds. It needed a bit more salt, but I like things saltier than my dad. My mom ate it too (but her standards aren't very high) and my kids are warped by my cooking, they ate it too.

My dad's not crazy picky, so it really makes me wonder, can I not just taste what's good and what's not? The one thing I was concerned about was the ACV but I'm not sure I could taste it at all.

Ok, bedtime here. Boxcar Children and sleep for them, a bit of TV for me, then early bedtime.

momofmine, our solutions for those were magnesium, melatonin, and taking out all the food intolerances (the last mostly for poor sleep/waking at night). I still need to sit down (with my mom's really slow computer) and read more on serotonin, given its close (but hazy, in my mind) relationship with melatonin.

For me that would be from eating hot pizza.

I'm toying with grain free or primal. Just don't have the energy to wrap myself around it at the moment.
