Welcome back, Alison!

I'm the same way. I can scrimp and save every day for 29 days, then on that 30th day I spend like a madwoman. What is up with that?

I do.not.know.

But I'm fighting it too.

I was just laid off this week, so tracking spending and trying not to spend are way more important these days. The idea is to figure out how to squash the essentials down so everything can come out of my husband's paycheck and so my small severence check can be kept as an emergency fund. I don't want to become dependent on unemployment since I'm not sure I'll actually be employed before it runs out. We've already decided on some budget numbers we're going to try to make work. We're getting rid of a few extras that had seemed like "essentials" before, but we've since realized are far less important than trying to keep our heads above water.

7-23 - Went to Target to get my prenatal vitamins (a must since I'm breastfeeding on a restricted diet due to my allergy kid). Instead of my regular brand which costs almost $11 for 50 tabs, I found the store brand at $4 for 100 tabs. We went to the pool and ended up getting in for free, since we were so close to the end of "tot time". I also collected on a free undies coupon I got in the mail from VS. Other than a little gas driving to Target and the mall, the entire day cost $4.04

I'll have to look through the extensive smilie list for future posts!

7-25 - I took my son for a long walk this morning before the heat set in. Spent $12.63 at Target. The only non-planned purchase was due to the fact that my "monthly gift" has finally arrived nearly 14 months after my son's birth. I don't consider it to be unbudgeted spending, as it was very necessary supplies. Will make a note to budget that into future purchases.

Must. Resist. Online. Spending! Feeling very tired from a long week, and therefore very entitled to overspend because "I deserve it". Trying to exercise self-control for the few days left in this month, then I'll let myself buy a much-needed new toilet seat (old one has been broken for months) or something when we get into August.

DH and I made 16 hrs overtime between the two of us this past week, so I'm trying to not let myself sabotage the chance to get a bit ahead.

Key:
no spend/ budgeted spending
unnecessary/ unbudgeted spending
hung laundry to dry
completed home improvement project

Goals for July
no spend days 20/25
eating out 4/0
hung laundry to dry 11/10
completed home improvement projects 3/3

1. I got up early and was able to get 2 loads out on the drying racks over the course of the day.
2.
3. DH and I got our new storm door installed and the exterior door painted
4. installed the closet organizer system in the master closet. We've had that organizer sitting in the utility room for 2yrs now, so glad it's finally done
5. Went food shopping. Picked up beach chairs and umbrella for our beach vaca next month, overspent at WM, stopped in JoAnn Fabrics for elastic thread for DD1's dresses and overspent by a little there. *sigh* I have got to stay OUT of the stores.
6. although *I* am b/c we had to have the HVAC guy out this morning. Our A/C wasn't keeping up w/ the heat wave and we needed some freon and a recharge, $120 later, *sigh*, not budgeted but definitely necessary. It also led to b/c we think our thermostat isn't working right, so we're installing the new one we've had kicking around for 6 months.
7.
8. Had well-child visits for 2 kiddos this morning. Not going anywhere the rest of the day.
9.
10. DH "needed to get out of the house" so we went to the Air & Space Museum, admission was free, but parking was $15. Then we decided to eat out on the way home, $32. While we were at the place, DS2 got his finger caught in the hinge side of their heavy entry door and we ended up with an urgent care visit, $25 copay, that landed us at the hospital having X-rays done. His finger has no fractures, but now we're going to have medical bills to pay *sigh*
11. Picked up our bulk meat order today, had dinner at my parents' while we split the order up.
12. Play date scheduled at friends' house. Don't plan on spending ANY money.
13.
14.
15.
16. Got pizza. x2 Got up early again, hung the laundry. It dried quickly, so I was able to squeeze another load out there. Went to WM to get refreshments for our church youth activity we're sponsoring, stayed well w/in budget.
17.
18.
19.
20. Didn't plan well for dinner, so while out running errands, stopped at grocery store and picked up requests from kids. Cheaper than eating out, but still un-budgeted.
21.
22.
23. but not really. I found part of DD2's Christmas gift on ebay. They're difficult to come by, so I grabbed it Had McD for dinner.
24. Spent like CRAZY today!!! Chili's for lunch, stopped at JoAnn Fabrics for a quilting ruler and thread (on sale, but still not needed), bought goodness knows what at Target, and made a stop at Rite Aid on the way home.
25.
26.

Just need to hold out for 5 more days. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

Well, tomorrow we're spending $$ at Lowe's. We're getting the wood to build new beds for the girls, wood for garden beds to start prepping over the fall, and wood for painting boards. I've met 2 of my goals, hanging laundry and home improvement projects, but have fallen short on no-spend days and ate out WAY too much . Hopefully next month will be better
