Oh no! The nap swing is suddenly too small...

My 21-m.-old has always been a lousy napper. The only way the little bean gets any daytime sleep at all is to use the swing. I love the swing; it has been a lifesaver.

And now, following a sudden growth spurt, the swing no longer swings! Baby is now officially too big for it.

How do you transition from a swinging nap to a non-swinging one? Short of swinging the thing by hand for hours on end, day after day, and trying to gradually taper off? I can see that going on for months and driving me mad.

We're on day 5 of no naps, and things are getting bad. Does anybody else have experience with this?

Can you start him off by hand, and let it go still after he's asleep. Then work backwards slowing it sooner and sooner until he can at least deal with that position but not moving?

Same positioning kinda in a car seat? If he's backwards anyway, does that work?

A mayan or brazilian hammock hung low enough that it's easy to get in and out of would be my first approach. DS1 loves to nap in his older sister's hammock, and the movement is enough to keep him asleep well.

Of course, he tends to sleep too much, so ymmv.

Wow I think DS outgrew the swing when he was ~6 months old (tried climbing out of it), I didn't know you could use them that long!

DS always naps in my lap (unless we're in the car) but DH has occasionally put him to sleep in the stroller... stroll around the house until he falls asleep. I know they also make crib vibrators, maybe something like that would work?
