white noise, anyone? - Page 2

We use a fan and I love it because it drowns out traffic noise and they can sleep through sudden loud noises like thunder or someone yelling. Nothing drowns out Harleys, though. I hate when they go by at nap time.

Waves cd on a loop

We use a 7 min section from a waves cd set on repeat using itunes. I like it because I can adjust the volume, meaning I can turn it way up if things are going to be noisey... like July 4th, or I can turn it way down if I know the house will be fairly quiet. This allows me the ability to wean her off of it eventually by slowly turning the volume down over time. It used to be on full blast every night; we now only have it at about 1/4 volume most nights and will continue to reduce volume over time.

We've been using a white noise machine (Conair purchased at walmart.com) since DD was 2wo. It worked great to do Karp's 5s for the constant shhhuushing. She's now 5mo and still using it at naptime and bedtime as part of sleep association routine. I tell her, "here comes your sleep sounds" and then turn on the machine after I swaddle her up. We have it set to stay on all night. She sleeps well with it.
