Waking up when I check on 14mo DS

My DS moves around after I put him to bed, before he falls asleep, so he gets uncovered. I lay a quilt on him when I initially put him to bed. Our house cools at night of course so I go in to cover him back up when we go to bed. The thing is, his door makes a noise when I open it (I have figured out to reduce but not eliminate the noise) and the floor creaks, so 8 times out of 10, he stirs, wakes up and fusses. It only takes 10-30 sec for him to go back to sleep, but I don't like disturbing him. What would you do? Is he too big for a sleep sack? Should I just layer on PJs so he doesn't need to be covered up?

I would definitely layer on the PJs rather than wake him several times a week. It is important that he get a good night sleep and you may accidentally be training him to expect you around that time, not a habit you will want to maintain I'm sure.

We have layered pjs to avoid just that problem. Plus, I found that even if I covered mine back up within a couple of hours they were uncovered again anyway. Is he waking in the middle of the night cold? Or are you just concerned he might be cold?

Yeah I'd do the layered pjs or maybe leave the door open until you do that final check?

My daughter could be awakened by a neighbor dropping a cotton ball in their basement so we do layered pjs and put three pacifiers in her crib just so we don't have to open her door without being totally certain she is awake and needing someone.

I'd also do layered/warmer pjs in your situation. It won't be long before your DS will be able to pull the covers back over himself on his own if he gets cold. My DS started this around 16 mos.

Do you have a sound machine or loud fan? We keep one of those on when DS sleeps and that helps to cover up other noises.

DS sleeps in long sleeve shirt and long pants. I bought a wireless thermometer where I can read the temperature of his room from my room. Then we have a programmable thermostat in our room so I was able to adjust it to keep his room comfortable all night long.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I'm mainly concerned that he'll get cold later and wake up. I'll try layering the pjs. We run a fan for background noise but have gradually reduced it to Low from High so that he can sleep other places and not be dependant on that fan, so it's quieter (but he's sleeping great other than when I wake him up lol).

We had the same issue, and just gave DS a couple of light blankets (just the little flannel baby blankets that have little use beyond giant burp rags during the newborn spitup stage) and warm-enough pjs. He figured out on his own how much he wanted on/off during the night. The trouble came when it got too warm for blankets, and he still insisted on being covered up with 3 when he went to bed. Then he'd wake up after a half hour, sweating and complaining. Fortunately, it only took about a week of that to convince him that he didn't need 3 blankets anymore....

they make a toddler sleep sack...http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...t_adv_XSG10001

We buy fleece 2 piece jammies for DS and he sleeps in them year round, also wearing socks at night seems to help regulate his body temp (he doesn't get hot/cold).
