Gaye, add that you want someone with excellent references.

I am sooooo frustrated with the stupid car dealer. If XH hadn't decided to get the stupid lifetime oil changes when we bought the car, I would never go to them for service again. They've screwed up so many things over the years, but this one is just driving me nuts. I had a warranty repair in March that they kept the car for two days for and the warranty was supposed to cover the rental car. Well, I got a charge on my credit card from Enterprise last month because the warranty company apparently denied it. Called the dealer, the guy said he would check into it and get back to me. I call him back 3 or 4 business days later, he's trying to figure out why they denied it, he'll get back to me. It's now been almost a month since the first call and I still don't have my money back. I just called AGAIN and he completely contradicted what Enterprise told me, told me he couldn't give me a timeline for when I would get my money back, acted shocked that I had already paid for it even though I had told him repeatedly that the charge was on my credit card and was going to need to be paid soon and it's been a month, etc, etc. And I think the worst is that he hasn't been remotely apologetic about it. I don't care whose fault it was, if he screwed it up, or the warranty company, or whatever, it would be nice for him to act like he was sorry that I've been inconvenienced. I've had it. If I don't get a phone call that it's been taken care of by the end of the day, I'll be calling the service manager directly and complaining, because this is just ridiculous.

Ok, rant over. So very, very tired, although I do feel better after track. My alarm went off this morning and I was soooo confused about why it was going off and why it was still dark out, etc. If it hadn't been entirely too early in the morning to call and cancel the babysitter, I probably would have. I'm glad I didn't though. I'm hopeful that I might get a nap, or at least some quiet time this afternoon.

rr~Track...800, 400 recovery, 6 x 300 with 100 recovery, 800 recovery. We were supposed to do the second 800 faster than the first one, and mine was 1 second faster, so that counts, right?

I would be super-nervous, too. I hope that that itchy feeling doesn't return. I's bound to get better now that it's exposed to air and healing, right?

Poppy! OUCH!! Thank goodness that's behind you now. Take it easy on your training, and (I know this is really late, but...) congratulations on the new job!

Gaye: at the dealer-guy. I totally second your idea to contact the service manager, or you can contact the regional manager of whatever car company it is... sometimes even just asking him (or the service mgr) for that contact information might scare them into action. That's just inexcusable.

Real, cool that you got to go to Lilith Fair! At least for a bit. I've never been brave enough to take kids anywhere and I am also wa-a-a-a-a-ay too old for all-day stuff. Especially in 98 degrees!

Bec, yeah, do take it easy. That's a long, slow recovery, but I like the way you think! More time to train biking and swimming!

I did a shorter swim workout today because the pool was so full. After finishing, I relaxed beside the pool and read a book for almost an hour! It felt decadent. Like, shouldn't I be doing *something*? Nice, though.

How much does a lifetime oil change plan cost? Consider it a cost xh paid and since things are now not what you thought they would be when you bought said vehicle .... stop going. XH doesn't hold command over you, so you don't have to go there. Oil change is like 30 bucks at a jiffy lube place. Perhaps a little more.

Of course that doesn't help with the current problem. But I have heard you complain about them before.
I agree with kerc--at least if you can swing the $ for oil changes elsewhere. Or maybe you could at least alternate every other one?

So, on the Run Like a Mother book blog today, they asked about our running inspiration. One can leave a comment for their giveaway (a Luna bar package), and I wrote about the Dingos. Everyone here is such an inspiration to me, and I realized I want to say that here too. :

FM: walked to the chiropractor and back with the girls in the jogger: 2.5 miles.

real - that's awesome

LMB - so inspirational, what you are doing. i wish you the best training and race imaginable.

lalala - you are such a strong mama to overcome your instincts to potentially react negatively in service to your daughter's self esteem and well being regarding her surgery. i am seriously sending you ( and her) lots of healing-with-no-itching vibes...

i start my new job next week and ...am nervous but also excited to get back to it. i just hope i haven't developed too many bad habits while working for myself for the last 4 years!

i managed to swim laps yesterday and a 3.5 mile trail run today. i did take some walk breaks but that is because i am trying not to push it too much, too soon. i hope to be more back up to par next week.

Morning, Dingos!

Had a nice 6m this morning, although I was slow and sore after the half on Sunday. Am gearing up for a day of tie-dying with my kids and my friend and her kids, and hopefully helping my mom clean her house (where we're staying, and making huge messes every day.) My kids are so energetic, and I am so old and slow.
I worked out today! Used my inhaler for the first time, and I'm looking forward to some outdoor running (someday, maybe?) now that I can breathe better. Squeezed in a quick 25min on the elliptical, then abs and then 2k row.

Huge rainstorms last night. Barn is flooded. I'll be cleaning it this afternoon, I suppose, and it is going to be steamy hot now that the sun is out again. Dh leaves again this weekend for 2 weeks. We're trying to plan an afternoon at a small amusement park tomorrow. Also weaning all the lambs and kids, so we rearranged housing and now I am getting a gallon of fresh milk daily.

Penelope, I tie-dyed an apron this past weekend. It was pretty fun. Me and mine and two friends and theirs. We dyed a huge pile of stuff. I also did a grocery bag and a pair of old leggings.

OK, back to work...

I am so proud of my kids! Today was their triathlon for camp ~ 100m swim, 3 mile bike, 1/2 mile run. DS WON!!! As in first place overall! He's a machine on the bike! DD did great too, with a smile every time she came around for another lap. DH and I were just so thrilled for them both .

In case you didn't see yesterday's facebook status, we got an offer on the house, but it was so ridiculously lowball that I had to laugh. They offered $35,000 below asking and had a bunch of crazy demands too (paint all the rooms to their choice of colors, new carpet, solid surface counters, etc.) Last time I checked, none of this stuff is the sellers responsibility and the buyers can make cosmetic changes AFTER they buy the house. So we countered with $2900 below asking and said we'd steam the carpets . The house has only been on the market for 13 days and we've had 7 showings, so I'm not that hard up!

Naptime for all.... especially my two triathletes!

Hi Sparkle.

poppy, your posts make me smile. You'll be awesome at your new job.

bec, be careful coming back to running!

real, that was so touching.

jo, how is your finger healing?

jayGee, How on earth did your children do it in this heat/humidity? to you and them. That house offer is crazy.

I tried running this morning and had to cut it short at 3.5 miles. I got all light-headed (and heavy legged); I am still not able to get a deep breath. It was just over 80 and the humidity I have no idea. I have been thinking about dd's inhaler all day but I am too chicken to try it because it wasn't prescribed for me. Albuterol inhaler with spacer for exercise induced asthma? Is it like sharing a toothbrush? Would it only do something for me if I need it or am I crazy to think about it? If I still can't breath at bedtime...

I need some open water swimming advice!

Thus far I have been training in a 33.3 yd (100ft) length pool. The tri I am training for is a 400 yd swim. I can swim more than that, but not continuously - I am working on that part.

Here's the thing: I know for sure I need to get some open water swim training in before the big day. My training partner (who is a MUCH better swimmer than I am) went to our local, small Parks and Rec run lake and talked to the lifeguard about where the buoys are for swimming laps, etc. The lifeguard said where the buoys are set up is to practice sighting, swimming in a circle, etc. BUT it is 30 feet deep out there!

I know, I know - that's how it is, but here is my question: Should I just go out and swim just a little bit and come back in for breaks? Or just keep going at the pool until I feel more confident and maybe get only one open swim experience in right before the tri?

Right now, I am touching the wall at the pool, taking a few seconds and then starting a new lap. Definitely a break. I am working on not needing them but I fear I might not get there before Aug 21!

Any advice really appreciated
mommajb, that's exactly what my new inhaler is. Just albuterol, 2 puffs 20min before I work out. I get that tight coughing otherwise, and it really did help. My doc gave me the big spacer thingy, too, which I of course forgot.

Finger is getting better, but the whole staying out of the sun thing isn't my idea of fun. Also, I am really stiff and achey. Of course, I've been feeling sore for a while now...
Officially a week off for me. My ankle is still sore after a lot of walking- any Dingo advice? I am stretching throughout the day and taking it pretty easy. I've been biking with the dog, so not even doing my normal amount of walking.

We are leaving for camping tomorrow morning, and I am not even remotely motivated to pack for a week in the wilderness. I think I have ovulation-induced ADD. All I want to do is lust over hot musicians.

I guess, I'd better start packing.

Jo- I'm glad the inhaler is helping! How's the finger?

Bec- I have dealt with shin pain for two + years now. I hope you can back off and let it heal so you don't have to deal with it ever again! for a speedy recovery!

Penelope- I love tie-dying! We had a tie-dye party as a housewarming when we moved and it was so fun. I am planning a hoop-making party soon, but it keeps getting put off.

Ok, off to the wilderness I go.
Tie dye report: it went well! We did handkerchiefs as samples, and then all the kids and moms did tshirts, and we had some pizza and popsicles and they just went home. It was fun.

My hands are blue, though.
The tie dye talk is making me recall days of tie dyeing handbell gloves... fun times...

So I have a question for you soccer moms. DD has been assigned to a rec team for the fall but the team has no head coach. In a previous appeal for coaches I volunteered to be an assistant coach, but not a head coach since I have never played soccer a day in my life. So, now they've sent a second email begging for a head coach for DD's specific team... I feel that pressure of the possibility of DD missing out because no one steps up... something we've already been through with Girl Scouts... so I need y'all to tell me that I would be in way over my head to try to be a head coach for soccer, right? It's U7 coed and apparently the focus is skills and how to be on a team... but still... really, having never played I wouldn't know where to begin or what to do! Thoughts?
U7 is more kid wrangling than athletics. If you can keep track of learning the kids' names, show up every time, and be tolerant of the other parents, yeah, do it.

(Honestly, the other parents were hardest for me...)
Hi! Just popping in quickly while DH cooks dinner.

Day two of the unprotected skin graft and it's still stuck to DD's nose. I think we might be okay after all. Today's only near heart attack was when she was crouched down patting our neighbor's yippy little dog (pug?) and it kept trying to jump up and scratch all over her face. Okay, that probably wasn't its intent, but still.

Running was good today. Even better was the fact that I could come home and crawl into DS's bed (as promised when I escorted him back to his bedroom at some ungodly hour of the morning) and sleep for another hour or so.

eksmom--My kids are in U6 soccer. They do a few drills: coach stands a bit in front of the goal, kids run one at a time up from the corner, coach passes the ball, kid scores a goal.

Kids all stand next to each other on the line on one side of the field. They alternate dribbling the ball with one foot then the other to the other side of the field.

Kids stand on the line and pick up the balls. One by one they try to throw the ball in as close to the coach as possible.

We also play quite a bit of red light-green light.

Good luck if you decide to be head coach!

Dinnertime.....
JayGee--super-cool about your kids' tri! And about the house offer. People are weird.

mommajb--no idea, but I hope you can breathe clearly again soon.

Nemesis-- about ovulation-induced ADD. Have fun camping!

FM: Ran 5, including a 3-mile tempo at 11:15, pushing the double jogger. I felt great! My original plan had been to be out the door before 8 but it didn't happen (I blame the baby who was fussy until about 1 am last night) and then I figured it was too hot. Around 9:30 I noticed that it was still nice ~70 with a light breeze and so we headed out before R's violin lesson. The training plan called for an 11:45 pace, but even with the hills I was able to go faster. It's probably because I got 7 (broken) hours of sleep, as opposed to the usual 5-6.
For us, U6 didn't include any throwing. We were still teaching kids to play with their feet. Different feet, different parts of their feet, dribbling, passing, shooting. They actually passed the ball a couple times by the end of the season. This is the definition of success. It was fun. U6 the coach can be out on the field, though. I think that's over for U7.

The thing I hated was Soccer Weekend.
Soccer:

Our league has a U4 group, too, aka soccer chaos (no lower age limit, so some kids on the field are just over a year old), so the kids do get some of the basics there and generally come to U6 knowing to use their feet and how to dribble a bit. And our sessions involve about half an hour of drills as a team followed by a half-hour four-on-four game against the other team.

They do a lot with cones, too. Dribble your ball to as many scattered cones as you can and touch them, set up paired cones all over the field for kids to dribble the ball through and keep track of how many "gates" they went through.... I'll add as I think of more things.

Kids are wild and a bit bratty. Perhaps the mad dash for the ice-cream truck at 8:00 wasn't such a bright idea?

I'm being paged for bath duty: "Mommy? Can I get my scars wet?"

"EEEEK! NO! DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING!!!!" In my head. Out loud: "Not yet, honey! Give me a minute and I'll come help you wash your face!" I'd better go.
