Its a toss between a mei tai or an ergo

which is better for a newborn? I am thinking the mei tai is...
I have a Moby and yes i used it on my toddler son when he was over a year old but i could never figure out how to carry him on my back with that thing so i always front carried him and that was a pain...He's now 3 and would rather walk anyways...I registered at BRU for an Ergo but i am not getting a shower so i am going to end up purchasing it myself and i won't get any CG either...cause that's how my family works...If you have more than 1 kid you shouldn't get a baby shower blah blah blah...so anyways which is better with a newborn. Thanks

I really just used the Moby until my DD was about 4 months old. Do you still have that?

Started using the Ergo at 4-5 months, and used it until threadbare. I also made a mei tai, which I use much less, even though it's in better condition now. The ergo is just much more convenient, but I don't think you could do newborn back carries in it at all.

If I were you, I'd give the moby another try and get an ergo for later.

Ergo was great for my newborn with the infant insert (the new type). Now I still use it (DS is 6 months). I also use mei tais but I didn't start until later, however I think a good mei tai should work as well.

I used my Ergo a bit later, and the Moby for only a few months (maybe 2) because DD was a big baby and it hurt my back.

I LOOOVE my Ergo Sport now. I also had a Pikkolo that I did use when she was tiny (you can cinch the crotch down so a little baby can go legs out) and I still use it now, with the waist support belt. That's my reason for never getting a mei tei-- that the belt doesn't have back support like an Ergo or Pikkolo. Some mamas love them, though, so it's a personal choice.

So, it's not what you originally asked for, but a Pikkolo can do newborn AND older baby/toddler carrying.

Yes, i still have my Moby....and purchasing extras for the ergo is not an option right now except for the extenders.....so that will be good for like next year then when the weather is nicer out.

I've come to the conclusion that it's a lot about what you're best at using. For me, it's my Babyhawk mei tai. I wore DD1 in in, front and back, from about age 6 months until she was about 3. For DD2, I started just a couple of days after birth. I've worn her on my back since she was 6 weeks, though not often.

I would say it depends on your size. I had both (the Ergo is my ex's, when we were together I used it), and the Ergo worked great until I lost my prego weight and it no longer adjusted tight enough (I'm tiny - 5'5ish and 115 right now). So then my mei tai was amazing! It adjusts infinitely and is awesome. The Beco Butterfly is also good for little people - that fits me great and is easier to use for a back carry than the Mei Tai.
