I salt everything! I'm pretty sure I have adrenal issues, if not outright fatigue. I need testing to confirm. I feel like I'm acting like a hypochondriac half (half? ha!) the time. I have a doctors appointment on friday and plan to make the doctors life hell
So...quickest period ever. 3 days and weirdness throughout. Related you think? Oh and after guzzling a couple litres of lime water, my pee is alkaline

what a thing to be excited about!
LCBMAX: I have the same problem! I'll go to the fridge, see tons of stuff I could eat..if I cooked/prepped them and just shut the fridge.
Crunchy_mama: Gratz on 11 years hope you guys have/had a great time on your anniversary.

I second the menu planning/white board idea. I need to do that. I end up getting so much food when we shop and never know what to cook

So I have to ask - what is the deal with urine being alkaline vs acidic?

This would help the head rushes? Sorry I'm behind, just catching up!

Re Snacks:

If you like them, a can of smoked oysters has probably a week's worth of your rda for zinc. Some folks like to eat them straight like that. Sardines too (although it kind of freaked me out when I tried it--didn't actually do it...Many love them though!) Also, canned or bagged salmon--I've eaten it out of the pouch b/4 plain (didin't love it that way, although ds will eat it like that), but I really like it w/ a little mustard, chopped red onion, salt and pepper, and parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice (although it would be way yummy w/ just the mustared, onion and s & p too, and probably quicker as well.)

I'm on a seafood kick right now--Miss "I didn't eat fish/seafood until I was in my late 20s--only *tasted* it once when I was 15" is trying to make up for a lifetime w/out omega 3s...

Also, bubbies Pickles are a favorite snack too...Sometimes we dip them in mustard.

Um, did anyone mention hardboiled eggs dipped in mustard w/ salt and pepper? They were one of my favorite snacks when I was eating eggs!! (Clearly we're all about mustard over here! )

ETA: How did I forget bacon? Precooked bacon, kept cold in the fridge, makes a way yummy, crunchy, and portable delicious very fast snack when on the go!! The fat hardens in the fridge too, which I think makes it more stiff and easy to eat out of your hand...

bacon would never last in my fridge from the boys, heck I barely get a piece when I make in the mornings

I love smoked oysters, and smoked mussels too! I wish I could find some that were canned in olive oil rather than cottonseed oil.
I love sardines too, I was going to buy some but opted for shrimp/scallops mix instead Wth happened to sardines in olive oil? I can't find any at all! Closest is sardines in soya oil. YUCK!
....craving oysters now....

You know, maybe we should compile a snack list and place it in the first post?I think with most people doing paleo/primal, snacking is a big stumbling block. I know it is for me.

I found canned plain and smoked oysters @ my HFS--brand was crown prince natural, packed in pure olive oil. They were pretty cheap too. I _think_ I saw them on amazon too...maybe not though?

Ooooo! *excited* I'm going to need to check my favorite hfs. They might have it

snacks... good point. That can be hard for me. I'm trying to snack less anyway (and do pretty well with that, but I am nursing and sometimes I am h.u.n.g.r.y. making me an impatient and irritable mom...). I end up noshing on fruit sometimes- since I have it around for the kids- and I really am trying to stay relatively low carb until I hit my goal weight (have lost about 30lbs since Jan, and have about 10 to go).

I am not eating totally grain free- I'll admit. I have found some very low carb bread (1 or 2 g carbs per slice) made with all organic, sprouted grains and seeds. I usually eat one slice a day max, but it just helps with changing up the meals a little.

I'd like to find a source for good eggs after I move to NYC. A couple of CSAs have egg shares but, lol, a share is a half-dozen a week. I'd need... like 8 shares or something...I did find one CSA near where we'll be living that is fall only and has room- yay! no eggs or fruit or anything, but I think it will still be worth joining for the 8 weeks of fresh produce. There is another CSA that might still let us do egg and fruit only (veggie shares are all taken) but then that seems a bit crazy, to do two totally different ones. BUT, it also seems very appealing to get good fresh eggs in the city... maybe I just need to ask around in the farmers markets I can walk to have egg sellers... my son is planning to work on convincing my parents to have chickens in their yard (they totally have space and its legal) but my mom has a kinda pathological fear of birds, so I'm not holding my breath.

Alright- working lots but doing pretty well with my eating. Occasional "off plan" eating but I think thats fine- I am not allergic or anything, just trying to shift my eating away from sweets, grains, and anything that spikes my blood sugar a lot. Its actually a relief to know that I can eat a half a slice of pizza and not "fall off the wagon" ykwim? Not sure how a big old slice of CAKE would do me, but I actually want to get to where I don't have to have a fear of these foods, just not have them be a big part of my life.

Haven't updated lately... Since last weeks guests left (ie: carb fest) I had 3 pretty good days followed by one really bad day (259g carbs). We were playing cards at a friends house and the only food was pretzels and chips, shouldn't have eaten any but was feeling snacky. sigh... must put some macadamias back in my purse for these situations. Yesterday I ate really LC, 76g, to help get me back on track.

today:
b- mortadella, cheese, spinach rollups. prunes.
s- 3 sq. 73% choc
l- tj's paneer tikka masala with spinach rice with added tbsp each of butter and coconut oil. 2 chicken strips. 3 sq. 73% choc and some cherries.
d plans- chicken gorgonzola and roasted broccoli

so far i'm up to 122g carbs. after that lunch i feel totally stuffed. i should still be under 150g for the day, so i'm ok with that. saturday i'm throwing a party for my kids, low carb should be doable (hotdog no bun, salad). BUT I do intend to eat one of my cupcakes because, if i must say so myself , I make killer cupcakes. Rich buttery yellow cake topped with rich butter frosting (1.25lb butter in each batch!). I just need to stick with one or maybe two . And I will have to be extra good the rest of the day, not eat the fruit or popcorn.

I hope it's o.k. to pop in with a question. When trying to stay under 150g of carbs. Do you count all carbs or do you subtract fiber from that number. thanks

I got glutened this weekend and have been eating (GF) crap as a result today. Chocolate covered raisins, potato chips, and a Jones root beer. I also did bacon and eggs this morning and chicken and cucumbers for dinner but still. Ugh. I feel absolutely terrible today. Dizzy, like nothing is real, stomach trouble, and exhausted and angry. Blah. Hope everyone else's day worked out better!

My little and I are both super sick with a viral lung infection and it's really taken a toll on my appetite. I'm definitely not eating enough, but my stomach hurts and I feel nauseous. Blah. So I feel weak and dizzy and tired on top of ill. Maybe I need to make a protein smoothie or something...

Some other awesome primal snackage:

cold meat. Seriously cold sliced seasoned chicken breast, or steak etc dipped in aoli is such an awesome snack!!!

cold shrimp.

an avacado.

primal fudge. (1/2 cup CO, 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, 1-2 tbsp of honey, or maple syrup or other sweetener of your choice, 1 tbsp of vanilla, and I like to add chopped hazelnuts!!! Mix everything except the nuts until smooth, add nuts, then spread into square glass pan or whatever you have, and chill until hardened.)

Safe lunch meat ham spread with cream cheese and rolled up (sometimes I place a golden pickled pepper in the middle. mmmmmmm!)

haha - I'm about to post the unthinkable... but I need a snack idea.

And here's the criteria:

High in protein, lower in fat, prefer no carb, but def LC

I'm tracking my calories and I'm lagging in proteins, and my fats are like 50% of my intake its all sunflower seeds, CO and 1/2 an avocado

so ladies... what do you recommend? I'm tempted to grab a yogurt and call it good, but thought I would throw it out to y'all

Trader Joes has Smoked oysters in olive oil. Just had some today! I did not know they had a lot of zinc.

Let me introduce myself now
first goal is to go grain free for 30 days, I did SCD for awhile a few years ago and I felt great! Grains make me feel full and bloated. I also maintained my lowest weight without even thinking about the number of calories I ate. I hope to lose a few pounds. Day 1 and 2 I had a serving of grain each day because I was not prepared when I left the house. Today, day 3, no grains

My challenges are: not licking spoons/finishing up the kids' grain filled foods, and not feeling like I want to stuff my face all day, even when I am full (I think that is the yeast overgrowth talking.)

I read a few pages, need to catch up when it is not so late at night. There are some delicious eating ideas here, cannot wait to delve in!
