sewing a new pretty fabric onto beco?

Has anyone ever contemplated sewing a new fabric swatch onto your Beco carrier, to cover up the old one for a fresh look?

I don't own a beco, but want one. The panther pattern is $40 off at one store. But I don't really like that pattern. I've got a sewing machine that has the ability (with the right needles!) to do some pretty heavy duty sewing. So I was thinking that I could buy a fabric that I really like, and cut it to size, fold under the edges so that it is "hemmed" and then sew that onto the back of the beco. Would that work, or is the back of the Beco waaaayy to thick and sturdy for something like this?

Not sure how thick a Beco is, but if it is too thick, maybe you could hand sew it with a whip stitch?
