I took my 2 yr old to the ER

We got back from a trip last week visiting relatives and it seems we all caught a stomach bug. It was bad and painful but it passed for everyone in 24 hours except my ds. Ds threw up about 10 times Monday. I told myself if he wasn't better by morning I would take him to the ER. He woke up happy as normal so I thought it passed. Tuesday he was fine all day. Wednesday at 2 am he threw up in bed once. The rest of the day he was fine. I thought it was some cookies he snuck in right before bed. Yesterday, Thursday, he threw up at 8:45 and again at 9:45. I was afraid it was going to get worse and he looked terribly pale so I took him to the er. They took us in a room right away which was great but then they forgot about us for about 3 hours. The dr came back and asked if he had peed yet after drinking the water they brought. Only problem is no one brought us fluids for him to drink! They foror about us! So those 3 hours, even though I asked people what we were waiting for, was for nothing. He finally got his water and peed and they did some sort of dip test. I had no idea what they were testing for, no one told me anything. About 2 hours later they said they got the results of the dip test and it showed he was dehydrated. Well I could of told you that! So they decided to start an IV. My poor baby. An they did a blood draw to test for imfection. We waited another almost 2 hours before they started the IV and blood draw. About 30 min after they finished the IV and blood draw another dr came in. I guess the staff changed and no one told me. This new dr said we could go home without even seeing my son. My son I could tell was fowling better but I don't think it was due to anything they did there. His sickness comes in waves and I think the wave had just passed. Anyway I was glad to get out of there but here is my question...(sorry took me so long to get to it) This new dr said to take him to his ped today for a follow up. I already made the appointment but they told me since they were squeezing him inthere was gonna be a long wait. To give you and idea, the usual wait is about an hour and a half and they said it was gonna be longer than that. My ds feels and looks much better this morning and don't see the need to take him in. We are just gonna sit there for 3 hours crying in the waiting room for the ped to tell me the same thing the ER told me. I also talked to the ped before I took him to the ER. I don't really like our ped either (in the process of switching) because she isn't thorough. I am also less than thrilled to go because I have a newborn at home that is nursing and yesterday I got so engorged and my mom had to give her formula since our stay was so long. I dint want to bring such a little one to an er or dr office to be exposed to all those germs. So what would you? Skip the flow up or take him? Do I HAVE to take him since I signed off on it on the discharge papers? Idk if that's some sort of legal thing there. Tia!

With this info

I'd skip and sneak the kid a Breastmilk smoothie.

I'd reschedule for a better day since he sounds like he's doing okay; then you can just cancel if he gets all the way better. Try to keep him drinking! Soup, teas, water, juice popsicles, pickles, coconut water...

Yes I have been pumping extra milk for him. He's such a picky eater that he won't really eat the diet they want me to give him... Clear fluids and bland things. He keeps asking for dairy which I know could make it worse but I think if in small quantities that's better than nothing. Thanks ladies!

Don't forget that breastmilk is NOT dairy! (You aren't a cow!) It is considered a Clear Fluid. So if you can pump milk and give it to him in a cup, or even get him to nurse (don't know how long he's been weaned) that it the BEST fluid you can give him!

Thanks I remember. He keeps asking for yogurt and cheese though.
