Prenatals? Which are the best?

I'm looking for some good, wholesome prenatals to take. I haven't had much luck looking in the stores, and online is overwhelming. I found the rainbow light ones at target and they seem to be the best choice for what I saw.

Which brand do you take, and why do you recommend it? How about DHA supplements? I want something with no artificial colors/dyes, flavors, preservatives, chemicals, etc...you get the idea!

FYI: I eat a very well-balanced whole foods diet. I do not eat much oily fish, not that I don't like it...I can't get a really good price on it, so I don't buy it. I am also breastfeeding my 2 year old.

I don't know that they are the "best," but I like the Rainbow Light Prenatal One vitamins because they are food-based and vegan, they don't bother my stomach, and I only have to take one a day. I also take additional folic, cal-mag, and flax seed oil. Good luck finding a good one for you!

I take Naturemade Prenatal Multi w/ DHA. I don't like taking a ton of pills, so having it "all in one" helps me....BUT I haven't been able to find a new bottle and I am loowwww......

I also take the Rainbow Light Prenatals (LOVE that they're whole food vitamins!) and get them at http://www.vitacost.com for $25.00 a bottle which I hear is a good price. For DHA/EPA I take NSI brand Mega EFA that I also get from Vitacost.

Im told Rainbow Light is best if you tend to get morning sickness when pregnant. (it doesnt make the morning sickness go away, but it is one of the easiest for people to keep down)

Awesome. Thanks for all the replies ladies. Yes, I really liked the fact that they are food-based/vegan. I didn't have morning sickness with my first, but that doesn't mean I won't with my second. I hope I don't! Does anyone take the Rainbow Light DHA supplement? I didn't find them in the store, but found them online.

Anyone else feel free to chime in if you have something different!

I really like New Chapter. When preggo, I took the perfect prenatal--organic and whole food. Now, I use the Women's Multi. the downside of it is that 3 pill=1 daily serving so they suggest you take it at bfast, lunch and dinner. It works for me but may not be for everyone.

I second the New Chapter Prenatals. I've been taking them for a little over a year now. They're awesome.

Buried Treasure Prenatal Plus DHA Complete liquid

I can only take liquid, everything else upsets my stomach. It's expensive, but if you can't take pills it rocks. tastes great too!

The Rainbow Light ones have ginger in them, which is why I think they don't upset the stomach. I take them at night before bed, which can also help stave off indigestion from pills.
Also check out Amazon for deals on the Rainbow Light vitamins. I got a years worth for like $40 the last time I bought some.

I also like rainbow light one a day prenatals.

I just got a prescription for OB Natal One, but have also used Rainbow Light and New Chapter over the past few months. I don't like the way the OB Natal One smell, but I think they contain omega 3 fatty acids. So far, I haven't had any problems with keeping them down, but I'm not pregnant yet.

I looked around alot with my first pregnancy and I found that I really liked the walgreens gold label prenatals. They are about 20 bucks but sometimes you can find them with walgreens for buy one get one free so they were a really good deal for me and still had great ingredients. I also took a DHA or fish oil with them.

You want folate over folic acid.I'm sure that comment is going to start a firestorm People also have different genetic markers and therefore different needs for folate. Some people who have the MTHFR gene can't use folic acid at all. I'm one of those. It can be checked by a simple blood test.
Here's a good discussion on this

Here's 2 pre-natals with folate

Don't forget your leafy greens and beans(especially lentils for folate).
