Getting meds into an 11 month old

Hi mamas! I need some crafty momma advice on how to get my LO to take meds. She is spitting them out and we are wasting precious antibiotics here. She is formula fed and I used to put it in her bottles but that is no longer working. She is not very big on food yet so we are kind of at a loss there. I tried even holding her down and getting it in back against her cheek and holding her mouth shut and she still managed to spit half of it out all over the place. Suggestions?

Now for a vent....

I'm soooo frustrated because we go to Urgent Care because we are in between Pedi's since there is maybe 2 within a 45 minute drive who are ok with not vaxing one of which is not a nice man. He is cold and nasty and wants them to come in every 3-6 months which I have no time for. The Urgent Care gave me an exact dose and this is our 6th ear infection since January and I am just SICK of this crap. On top of that, I got beat the heck out of by my 3 year old because she had 7 slivers (pressure treated lumber) and they had to come out and she was flipping out on me (for good reason, but still). It's been a rough day and I just need a mommy mental health day.

I really don't think I have anything to add that could help, but I couldn't not respond.

Meds / vitamins that my son has taken have come with syringes. If he doesn't like the taste I just put a little tiny bit in his mouth and wait till that goes down and then go again. It takes for ever but he gets 90% that way. He loves his vitamins and sucks them down himself straight from the syringe.

it's hard on everyone when they are sick

when ds needs meds, I have dh hold him. Then, I put my finger in ds's cheek and put a tiny amt of medicine (usually 1/4 of the dose) in his cheek. I keep my finger there until he swallows then we take a short break. we repeat until it's all done. it isn't the fastest method but it gets most of the med into ds.

I find that blowing gently on her face as I'm administering the meds will make her swallow. This is, of course, while I've got her leaning back in the crook of my arm, with her arms pinned so she can't swat the syringe away. She's 11 mos on Tuesday.

Good luck!
