Classic Question

Our NB diapers from dd were all loaners, and there were heaps of beautiful diapers, but for the life of me, I cannot remember how many there were! #2 is on the way, and I'm trying to get the NB diaper situation under control. I have a mix of mostly KL0 with a few random fitteds and half a dozen prefolds (NOT a fan of prefolds for newborns, oh, the liquid oozing poo!), and a total of not quite 2 dozen. We use mostly wool covers, but do have one or two bummis wraps to use for those instances when all the wool is pooped on at once. DD is also still in diapers, and I wash every second or third day. I don't want to wash every day, but I'm fine with every second. So, how many NB diapers is the standard for such things? I have 3 dozen stuck in my head, but I have no idea where I'm getting that number.
I know this question must have been answered about 8 million times already, but I'd appreciate it if you would humour me!
Thanks.

Allow 14 dipes per day for a NB. Then if you only use 12, you'll come out ahead. But the number is usually somewhere in there.

I tell people 30 for two days.

I like to have at least 3 dozen, preferably 4... but when DD was small, we lived in an appartment with no dryer and an incredibly slow-drying climate, cool and very humid. I changed her whenever she was wet (doing a sort of EC) and there was a long stretch of using 18-24 diapers/day, which took about 24 hours to dry... so we wound up with every day diaper laundry because of the long drying time (24 hours for 4x6x4 prefolds). I would consider 36 a minimum.

I too think 36 is the magic number. Once the LO stops pooping every hour then you can get away with 24 (as you probably already know with one still in diapers).

Just for the record I had the best luck with prefolds for my newborn. It all depends on the cover that you use. I used these and then mostly thirsties when he was a bit bigger. I think wool on a newborn is trouble because it gets pooped on too much for my comfort.

It totally depends on the diaper. With fitteds and wool, I don't think I ever had a cover pooped on until he was maybe 4 or 5 mos. Even when I was using PFs (I had half and half), I don't think I had a poo leak until he became mobile.

Thanks so much all. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a few more little diapers. They're so ridiculously cute, it's not hard to cave to the urge to buy them.
We used mostly wool on dd as a newborn, and really liked it, but, we did also use mostly fitteds under the wool. It did require more washing than her wool covers now do, but not too much. The real disasters were with the prefolds. I just couldn't get them snug enough around the legs! It (almost!) never leaked out of the cover, but the cover definitely got pooped on pretty much everytime.
Thanks for the info!
