5 yr. old first cleaning...Flouride or no?

I am taking my 5 yr old dd for her first cleaning on Monday and when I made the appt. she mentioned them doing a flouride treatment and I know how bad flouride is for kids but what about at the dentists office applied to the teeth.

What do you do about flouride? Do you just refuse it?

It's up to you. We've generally left it up to the kids because I don't have strong feelings about it one way or the other.

I decline. I have fairly strong feelings though.

I just took my little one in for his first cleaning (he is almost 4) and declined the flouride. His dentist was fine with it and said he has a lot of patients who decline it. Didn't seem to be a big deal at all.
Good luck!

i dont allow it. our dentist is great! we've had him for about 10 yrs now and even when he stopped taking our ins I paid out of pocket. he's not crunchy or anything, but he's learning. this time around instead of giving the kids bubblegum flavored colgate (we keep it for emergencies or sometimes donate it) they gave us a really great coupon for spry in the bag with the brush and floss.

the hygeinist made a point to tell me it didnt have flouride in it...like i didnt already know! LOL
